I've put that 15Hr Remembering Patrice Special on my ipod and listened to it probably 10 or 15 times over the years and all the Comics sltell a story about Patrice in between clips. Joe made his Patrice story almost sound like they were closer than two best friends who fought a war side by side, and that Always raised a red flag in my mind thinking "they weren't that close were they"??

He's really, really unlikable. Like a shitty, no charisma Kevin Hart doing Patrice's material. He actually makes me dislike the material, which feels like it should be impossible. Then he makes another video about it as if it was all an homage? Fuck him. That people didn't seem to care about his theft is fucking ridiculous to me. That we spend so much more time on DeRosa than on him is a shame.

It's more than that, I would say there's an entire generation of people who don't even think twice about joke stealing. It's "sharing" to them, much like how downloading music from Napster was "sharing" to us when we were teens. Internet memes, funny youtube videos, funny tweets, all of that shit is just passed around and shared as if it were your own. There are so many legitimately funny comedians on twitter, writing their own jokes, and they get blatantly ripped off, whether it's by a nobody with two followers, or something like "Men's Humor" with 500k followers. Even when there's a digital trail, completely with timestamps and proof that it's stolen, nobody gives a fuck.

I do agree about west coast comics, most of them are just shitty actors trying to get noticed.

It's also that Patrice's material clicks at a different level than most other people's jokes do. He said shit that everyone sort of already knew, but never could articulate. That's why he was such a genius. That kind of comedy is way harder than being clever. It's probably the hardest thing possible in comedy. Saying the things that everyone had some sense of, but only he could fully explain. That's why it's easier to steal his material, because it sort of felt like it was always there. It just wasn't until he showed up.

I think if someone stole Louis CK's or Chris Rock's jokes, it'd be different. Those guys do "bits." If someone does a joke about casting the little girl in Schindler's List, or $10,000 bullets, it's much easier to catch. That's much more specific. On this subreddit we know Patrice's shit so well because we've heard him so many hours. His whole personality is as specific to us as a single Louie joke, but that's not the case for a wider audience. They just think this thieving asshole happens to be a funny eccentric guy, when we all know he's entirely full of shit.
