I don't think Sam and Ant ever had that close of a relationship, but I do believe that Ant genuinely respects Sam's on-air talent (I know, I know, that phrase is nails on a chalkboard to most of you). Some of my favorite show moments involved Sam throwing some other staff member under the bus, during which you could always hear Ant say, "Sam is such a dick!" while laughing his ass off.

I always thought Sam played off of Ant pretty well; plus, he sometimes nipped his racial rants in the bud by pointing out an underlying absurdity in his argument.

But Opie needs his guys!

Anthony got into a funk where he felt lame for being part of all the gossip talk and let Opie steer the ship full time. Ant got so bored he started believing Fox News and lost his damn mind about Trayvon Martin. Eventually he self destructed on Twitter like an idiot, and now he's doing a podcast from his basement while Sam shits garbage into the 3rd mic.
