Opie is trying to be Don Imus

Not sure if this has been brought up before. I know he's been compared to Hoo Hoo before, but I think Imus fits as well.
- Married late, had kids late
- Has gold digger wife, who he is promoting professionally even though she has no proven skills
- Surrounds himself with yes men.
Unlike Imus, he really brings nothing of interest to the show.

I don't think its so much of him wanting to be Imus as much as he wants to become more of a household name in the future. I suspect very heavily that he wants to transition into a "broadcaster" with more mainstream appeal. He knows thats his only shot at becoming famous outside of the fringe.
Thats why he wasn't heart broken that Ant got dropped from the show(Ant obviously has way more of an edge than mr milquetoast). Why he riffs on lame reality TV, talks about the issues of parenthood, etc.
Even though he lambasted Stern for becoming a pussy late in his career, make no mistake about it - Opie would step on his own kids to have his face associated with a network television show. Especially now - so he can show all the "haters" that he can be successful without Anthony.

Dude is past 50. The time to become a household name is long gone.

I agree, but Opie's level of self delusion knows no bounds.

He is Scorch.

What? When has he promoted his wife? You're fucking delusional.
There's plenty of reasons to hate opie without making shit up, fuck off.

Yea that part confused me. Stern promotes his stupid wife & North Shore Animal League all the time.

Lynsi is listed as an executive producer on Women aren't funny

Why does she have a producer credit on women aren't funny?

What the fuck does that have to do with anything? Vos and bonnie and opie and his girl are friends IRL, no?
0 K1bbler 2015-03-05
Doesn't make her a producer.

Anyone can get a producer's credit if you throw enough money at something, which is exactly what they did.

How much did she contribute?

ME: She's a stay at home mom! She has to tell the nannies what to do!

What? Do you know what being accredited as a producer entails?

I actually think Howard is closer to Imus at this point but Opie certainly unlikeable and unfunny like Imus.

Was Howard ever funny? Not defending Howard in the least bit, but he was never known for his comedic chops, which is why he had Jackie & Artie writing jokes for him. At least Howard can interview a guest and make it interesting. Opie, well, he can not.

To compare Howard to Opie at any point in their careers is blasphemous. Opie was and is a untalented fraud in every way. He is a Jocktober host who attached himself to some talented people and thinks he is now one of them.

I was only making the comparison because it was previously mentioned. I haven't listened to Howard in over a decade, nor do I like his smug ass, but I can guarantee he is ten times the broadcaster Opie is.

I I'm sorry I did that.
2 GleepGlorpFloopdedoo 2015-03-05
I'm embarrassed I did that.

Forget the radio show... He's been a frequent talk show guest... No writers and was often funny.... Stern has had very funny moments... Rock and Cumia both have said he is very funny
