Here's my Public Enemy story:

I was the biggest fucking fan of Public Enemy you've ever met.

I can literally recite every single line from the first three Public Enemy albums, the best ones.

Fast forward twenty five years, and I'm at a random hotel in Houston Texas. I'm waiting in line to get breakfast, I'm 43 and I'm way too old to listen to rap music. But there's three guys in front of me at the Starbucks, and every one of them is wearing Public Enemy schwag. They're wearing t-shirts, they're wearing jackets, all with the PE logo.

It occurs to me that Public Enemy might be standing in front of me, at the Starbucks in Houston.

I came this close to asking for an autograph.

But then I realized it would be insanely racist to ask three random black dudes for their autograph.

I didn't ask them for their autograph, bought my coffee, and moved on.

Thirty minutes later I pulled up Public Enemy's Facebook page, and lo and behold, they were in Houston. I was standing behind my teenage idols at Starbucks, and my fear of being racist kept me from saying 'hello'
