Jim really showed off how much he has developed as a radio professional over the past 15 years. Opie is pretty much redundant at this point. Opie should just take to producing/programming the channel behind the scenes. Let Jimmy bring in a comic of his choosing to be his second mic (Or rotate comics for a while until one sticks) and have Sam be the unoffical third mic.

Opie could come in and do a show once in a while for old times sake or fill in for Jimmy when there is absloutely no one to replace him. There really isn't a need for Opie to be there full time. Phase Opie out and have the show be the Jim Norton show.

Right, Opie is just going to hand off the show that he built with Ant over twenty years to Jimmy. Right.

I don't think Opie will do this. I am just saying in terms of what would be best for the quality of the show and the channel. Opie is too egotistical to actually step down and direct the channel and take a executive producer role in the show.

Opie and Jimmy could spend the next 6 months finding a third mic to take over the second mic role and then slowly transition the show to Jim and the new co-host. But Opie seems to care more about being on the radio than the evolution of the show.

I guess my point was that over the past 15 years Jimmy has grown enough and done enough radio where he could actually do the show as a radio type program without an Opie type (Or what Opie use to be).

I've come to realize, with discussions on here, that when Opie got the reputation as the "captain", "director" or "ship steerer", it was a truly different show. It was during WNEW when they did lots of stunts and bits and interactions with the audience. And, at the time at least, it could be believed that he was more behind that stuff than Ant was.

However, this current version of the show...yeah Opie is useless. Anthony could've done the show with out him. Jimmy could do the show without him. Vos or Bobby could do the show without him. Shit, even Sam or Erock can do the show without him and it probably wouldnt be any worse. The show is a "ground hogs day" of just talking about the day and interviewing a guest that they know nothing about. Who couldn't do it?

Opie as a producer and a host (Working the buttons and guiding the show from topic to topic) was actually useful to the program in its shock jock format and when he put in the effort to produce the show. Ant and Jimmy weren't as engaged into the process of radio nor where they familiar with the technical or business aspects.

Back in the WNEW and early XM/Free FM days Opie actually tried to produce the show and put some energy into hosting the show on air.

But shortly after the show got kicked off K-Rock Opie decided that he was enough of an on air "talent" that he could just stroll in and be like Jimmy and Ant. But the issue with that is Opie has nothing to say and isn't quick enough on his feet or clever.

He doesn't even put enough energy into the hosting aspects and that's becoming more and more evident each day he keeps phoning it in.

I hate that I actually used to drink the 'steering' kool aid.

I think we only thought nopie shows were "meandering" because it made sense and it made us feel radio-smart to say it. Blech. We deserve this shit show. Bunch of cunts, all of us.

Ant and Jimmy used to run a lot of shit into the ground and not really know where to go from there...but that was also like at least 8 years ago and its not like it takes a genius to know when to switch topics. Plus, Sam is there to help out as well. There is no real need for Opie.

Imagine that. A guy who has basically done full time radio for 13 years can run a show just fine with producers who have done radio for 10 years.

Anything other than politely bringing up a new topic when something's clearly getting run into the ground is overbearing as far as I'm concerned. You don't need a ship-steerer for shows like O&A. Anyone remember that one time on TACS Gavin McInnes just started going off out of nowhere in the middle of a bit and they never got back to it? I loved that. Opie would have probably gotten visibly angry and forced it back to the dumb bit over and over again for no reason.
