Is this our movies break? Someone needs to pretend to be Norton pretending he hasn't seen a film made since '... And Justice For All'.
'Birdman' was good, much better than most, duh, but there were a bunch of pictures I though were better.
'Grand Budapest' was more fun, 'Locke' was a more interesting character, 'Calvary' was fucking intense, 'Starred Up' was strong, 'The Double' was a bit self-conscious but it still worked-out, 'Snowpiercer' had the most grown-up politics,
haven't seen 'Inherent Vice' yet, but I doubt there will be any problem there.
... and the two favorite films I saw last year were, by a mile, 'Under The Skin' and 'Ida'. So there!
And fuck dumb Opie's Oscars talk before it even gets started today. And then fuck awards, and awards shows, they're the worst.
I just really like movies that don't look and sound like all the other movies we've all watched.
Even if that's just the Gun Fu action from 'John Wick', or whether that's a shiny black floor seen from below in 'Under The Skin', or the camera locked off and the composition pushed right to the edge in 'Ida', just something new, that's all I need to dig a picture.
Found myself skipping forward in bigger and bigger chunks for 'The Drop', but watched 'Locke' twice back to back on the same night. Diff'rent strokes.
And I don't give a fuck what anyone says, 'Lucy' was better than '2001', and I'll strip to the waist and fight anyone that wants to make an issue out of it.
It's the opposite of pretentious, it teaches people that we all don't matter and constantly makes fun of the protentiosness of film people the entire way through. Did you just read that string of words somewhere and thought is sounded good and decided to attribute them to a movie you didn't understand? Cause it seems like it.

I would have thought for sure you'd have been rooting for the Jake Gyllenhaal movie.

Under the Skin was a little too arthouse for me. The Double was more the right amount of artsy shit.
I actually liked the Drop a bit more than Locke as far as 2014 Tom Hardy movies.

The setup for Lucy was good and the ending was interesting I guess. C'mon, the hour in between the 2 was shit though.

Good flick. Could've been great without the faggy flying parts.

It is pretentious, self indulgent nonsense disguised as a good movie.
