I don't hate Opie like seemingly everyone else here. Is Opie a comedic talent? No, but together with Ant and Jim they gelled well.

I assume the dynamic would be more of a partnership than employer/employee.

I understand that I'm probably more militant than most in this, but I've hated Opie long before the split. They gelled together really well for a long time, but Gregg has skin like thinly sliced ham, doles out more cheesy ass insults than anyone ("SLOBBO!") despite having tits of his own, contributes nothing and acts like he's hot shit talent.

The advent of social media just made him so much worse. Reading this sub for the past few months was the final straw because it made his repetitions go from something I ignore to something that goes in my ear and sticks a needle into my brain. I just flat out don't like hearing the guy.

The split had nothing to do with why I dislike him, really.

Personally, I'd love to see Ant and Jim get back together in some form, whereas Ant says "Oh, he's doing his own thing! We needed a break!" when anyone asks about the Ol' Opester.

They didn't gel together well. There was just enough talent in the room that people were able to tolerate Opie.

As lame as Opie has been and continues to be, it's stupid to say that they didn't gel together well. There were many years where both of them were goofy and lame(in retrospect) but they made a good show together.

Obviously you weren't much of a listener before the split. The show was declining in quality. Ant and Jimmy on TACS were them at their best in a long time.
Ant funds a studio and equipment and has an existing show on his own for Opie to then just waltz in and be part of it. That's not a partnership that's an employee.

Opie would never do anything on Ant's terms.
