I love how building a studio is the equivalent of wanting to do his own thing. I know mechanics that work on their own cars, doesn't meant they want to leave their job. Electricians fix up their house's wiring, doesn't mean they want to leave their job. Lawn mowers mow their own lawn, computer guys build their own computers, basketball players have their own basketball courts. But management loves it now, so who cares. Too bad he didn't care if listeners like the show.

Not saying it worked (it hasn't), but in theory, its better for him if it looks like they wanted to part ways anyway, despite the firing. Pretty simple. And it fits with his attitude since the firing went down. And how cohesive all his branding is. "OpieRadio" channel, twitter, youtube, a store selling products, etc. He just wanted to build his own brand and own thing, for a long time. In Jims defense, I don't think I've ever heard him say Ant wanted to do his own thing, he's only said Ant IS doing his own thing.

He said he was doing it to ride out the contract, then he has to ride out 2 more years, in his own words he has been forced in a very difficult situation

jim is a worm, he should not have re-signed if he wanted to maintain any sort of respect from O&A listeners. I will never see it any other way no matter how much Ant states that he didn't want them to do that, Ant's a genuinely nice guy and I see him as the only friend out of the group.

Thing is Ant also trots out that line about Opie continually threatening management with walking away (which is still maintain is nothing more than a bargaining tactic). Which is the reason he started building his own studio...for work security. At the same time Opie sees Ant creating this great space for himself and thinks he wants to do his own thing for a while. It all stems from the pair of them not properly communicating with each other and that's it. So in summary they are both silly geese.

So it would be fair to say that Mr. Hughes distorted certain facts regarding the circumstances of Mr. Cumia's departure? Because I find that very interesting. It's almost as if there's a pattern of discrepancies that speak to Mr. Hughes honesty.

Copping out is always easier than admitting he wasn't that upset that his partner of 20+years got fired and he didn't want to risk his own paycheck to help out Ant, duh.

Eh, I think what Opie means vs what he is saying might be quite different. If you recall, the boys frequently complained about how much they hated the management and how they wished they could do more live shows and shit. Although Ant might not have actually wanted to follow through with leaving Satellite, the desire was absolutely there. Remember the bitterness that they had about not being able to do longer, or original content for the podcast because the company was worried about losing revenue or "giving it away for free"?

I think that that this is something that a lot of the guys around here tend to forget way, way WAY too easily. Remember how miserable Op and Ant sounded for the last year or so? Sure, there were good times, but it felt a lot more sparse then it used to be. They just generally both seemed to be unhappy with their jobs at Sirus and how they were being treated and sidelined by other shows. For fucks sake, half the days they would literally just be reading shit out of the newspaper and counting down the minutes until it was over while Jim was reading Tweets on his phone. It was a mental breakdown away from Ron and Fez lite.

I was upset as anyone else when Ant was fired, and how the firing was carried out, but honestly I think its given Anthony a lot more freedom to do what he actually wants to do with his career. It might not be as easy or cushy as it would have been, simply being able to rot away at XM for the next couple of decades with a nice secure salary (who wouldn't want that?!) but hopefully it can be a breath of fresh air into his world as an entertainer. Hopefully this kick in the ass that he's been given is a real wake up call and is going to force him to push that much harder to stay where he's at.

I know that there is always going to be a lot of Opie hate on here, and I'm not going to pretend that I don't enjoy or agree with most of it, it but it's stupid to hear over and over how Opie is just trying to make himself look good or question the crews loyalty to Ant or any of this other dumb shit. Change doesn't always have to be a bad thing.

Sure, Anthony would have kept resigning but since the firing only one of the 2 left was being recruited by Anthony. We've all heard how he tried to recruit Jimmy to his show and had only a quick 5 minute talk with Opie the first 6 months of the firing. I think this angle has been talked about much at all. As much as Anthony would have kept resigning, he's never felt comfortable long term with Opie. Anthony even mentioned he never knew if Opie was going to sign another contract, that really speaks volumes about Opie's loyalty towards his ex-cohost.
