Before the firing, people complained on this sub that opie used to talk trash about people who discuss kids on their shows, and when Op had kids, turned aorund and talked (uninterestingly) about his own kids. I don't know that he's ever acknowledged the hypocrisy there. Even if he had, it's not genuine because he continued to talk about them, much to the disgust of his co-hosts.

Then after the firing, the very style of radio he does, is the same type that he mocks with the only benchmark bit he wanted to acknowledge from the past few years: Jocktober. Certainly he hasn't acknowledged that hypocrisy.

Then there is the general sense that we all get about him: he is not only largely lacking self-awareness but actually lacks it on a fundamental level. He cannot gauge whether his jokes are funny, he does not understand much of any subtext, and he often misses opportunities for very entertaining radio because he's caught up in his own agenda/thoughts.

I think all of the hate centers on his oblivious nature, all the more exacerbated by the fact that his career and on-air persona are characterized by being superior, edgy, and relatable by way of being "real." He fails at all of these things and still tries to build on the show that was built on them.

So if opie woke up and addressed the listeners like they were real people who are aware of what's going on, rather than being evasive and dodging the accusations, I think he would at least gain respect, even if many people still would not like his personality.

I think a level of honesty with the audience and acknowledging what he has become would be a huge step. I've heard him on other shows where he is relaxed and acts like a normal person and he's fine...for some reason when his name is on the wall though, he turns into....well you all know.

Jim might not even be a millionaire, and if he is, it's likely below 2. He deserves to "get his" in my opinion, and so I have no problem with him "worming it up" if that means he makes 300k a year (speculation) doing an EASY job. Additionally, Anthony has said he would have resigned... everyone here would have resigned. Jim made the right decision despite the terrible circumstances IMO...
