What the fuck is a mailing list and why does Jimmy use it?

Does it do something twitter and facebook don't?

I think it was Bob Kelly who theorized that Jimmy must have recently heard that a bigger comic had a mailing list and fixated on it.

Louis CK has one to promote his specials and shows, aswell as writing 30 paragraphs of his self-indulging thoughts on comedy from his Blackberry while taking a massive shit.

Not everyone visits Jim Norton's Facebook and Twitter pages and obsessively hits "refresh" over and over again until new content arrives. Most will skim through hundreds of other feeds that they follow and won't catch every single message. Thus, an email list is a much better marketing tool for a touring comedian than only depending on social media. He's not a Luddite for having one. People are far more likely to notice an email about his new project, than they are to notice the one time he tweets "Exciting news!" or "New Tour Dates!" and posts a link.

He plugs everything he does on a daily radio show, a mailing list is dumb unless he's pushing out additional content. I suspect it could have something to do with Ant getting canned and realizing that the show could go away again, which I'm sure he thought was impossible, and he'd be in the lurch in regards to promotion like he was the last time they got benched.

The majority of his fanbase never listens to him on the radio (or hasn't listened to him in years).

For people who don't use twitter or Facebook I'm sure it could be useful. Direct links for tickets and shit, merch. Then again I don't really know because I don't subcribe.

He caught up to Louis CK after 2 years. Jimmy's always a few years behind on all things.
