When do you think Opie's resentment started...?

I bet for a couple years after Ant was hired he treated Opie like some kind of God. Totally looked up to him with respect and admiration. Which, we all know, is Opie's dream. He lives for that shit. When Ant started realizing how untalented, ignorant and phony Opie really is, that treating him like a God attitude went out the door. At that same time, I'm sure it was becoming obvious to the listeners, how much funnier and entertaining Anthony was. I'm thinking THAT'S when Opie's resentment and jealousy of Anthony started. And it never stopped.

I would say the resentment started mid-WNEW, so around 1999-2000.

I agree with you, the first few years Anthony was so thrilled to not be installing HVAC units, that he probably didn't care who he was on air with.

But, WNEW was their prime. They had A list guests and top level comedians in studio constantly. It was there that Anthony really began to shine and show his talent. At that point, Opie became second best.

Having been to a few of their live gigs, I also know Anthony had the larger following. I remember one appearance where Anthony didn't show up. He was "sick." When they told the audience it was just Opie, there were loud grumblings.

By the end of WNEW, I would say the resentment was in full swing. IIRC, Opie once said on SXM that after the firing, he and Anthony didn't speak for months at a time. Odd behavior for a "team" and business entity, similar to what we're seeing between them now.

norton also said he was brought on board because opie and anthony were having a fight at the time

Literally one of the first times I listened to O&A on the radio was on KRock on my way to school and they were discussing people hating Opie.

Opie was talking about how he runs the show blah blah and Anthony's the funny guy.

This was probably 2006ish?

Being the lesser partner for that long has to breed resentment.
