Self-conscious? This is a man who uploads videos of himself doing shitfaced karaoke, alone, in his basement. I don't think stage fright or shyness are issues. Ant probably realizes how difficult it is and how much work it takes to be any good at stand-up, and has said, "fuck that".

He's been singing for years and is good at it. And he has to be shitfaced to do THAT. Stand up is a whole different animal. I think Ant is best at non written, organic riffing with people. He's so quick and 99% of the time his comments are hilarious.
