This always bothered me about Jim. He would try to relate to people who have gone through real addiction and act like his 20 years is such an achievement for sobering up after getting drunk and making prank calls when he was a teen. "Oh I would have been terrible if I didn't stop" but you did, and you weren't, so fucking stop.

Jim just does impressions of other people when he wants to transcend his species and seem human.

He does these impersonations. I swear, you would think it was the real people.

This nigga likes to act like he hit rock bottom and was forced to stop. Fact of the matter is he lived with his parents until his 30's.

He didn't even do anything that bad. Hell I drunk drove a Mazda into a fucking ditch in the MUSLIM country of Bahrain and I still drink... After I'm done driving now.

To me, the problem with his addiction obsession is when he's talking to a regular binge drinker who for all he knows has no problem being able to handle it. He often ruins the mood of the conversation by declaring his certainty that the person has A Problem.

Ant would be the obvious elephant in the room, but there are so many specifics with Ant that I don't count it as a good example. He's good friends with him, and knows a lot about him. Whenever Jim brings it up it's almost always tagged with a funny line. Besides, with all the guns and the variety of less-than-stable people churning through his house all the time, it's actually an above-average genuine concern.

The George Wendt interview was a pretty good example. God he was a fuckin bummer that day.

He probably does it because he'd like to give himself a pat on the back for helping someone, whether they need help or not. And it probably makes him a little lonely and a tiny bit bitter that such a huge portion of the socializing pie has been off-limits to him for most of his life. I doubt he knows he's doing it but I think he has a tendency to want to ruin the party once in a while.

It's honestly the only problem I've ever had with Yimmy.

When he talks about sex, masturbation, prostitutes, etc...you can clearly see how those habits would translate to drugs and alcohol. He's just replaced the substance

People start earlier too... in middle school I was seeing kids getting drunk and doing drugs.

I had plenty of friends that were full on coke heads by that age.

In my highscool maybe 1 in 4 guys did coke, ecstasy at some party, not to mention robo-tripping. I just drank, and considered myself straight laced and sober for it.

At my highscool we used robo-tripping as an umbrella term. This was right when dextro first became popular. So you could robo-trip via Robitussim or otc dextro containing pills, there wasn't an independent word for each, at least not among the guys I knew. This was a while before that had to put it behind the counter, maybe a year or two before.

Kids now with their bath salts make us look like a bunch of Sunday school girls.

I think Jim had/has some other issues. That it wasn't addiction. You listen to some of the weird self hate stuff he had as a kid, his thing for trannies, how he seriously considered hanging himself before one of his specials. The recovering addict thing gives him a sense of indentity and maybe an excuse to allow himself to get support. I don't know but I'd bet his issues come from somewhere else.

From the sounds of it the worst thing he did why "under the might grip of the bottle" was sell his comics and baseball cards, but at one point what teen didn't do that?

ok, that's fair ... but what did the kiiiiiiiiid do? Lately I've seen so much hate directed at the show, even Jimmy is getting shit on. He was voted boy most likely to carry a radio show after the comedic genius is fired.

I don't think Jimmy is at all hated. He's just totally full of shit, a hypocrite and wishy washy. Ant isn't there to make us forget Opie exists and he isn't there to bounce off Jimmy and provide the funny, so it makes the faults and negative aspects of Dopie and Jimmys personality shine like beacons. Not only was Ant the funniest on the show, he made it so we weren't forced to see the mediocrity in O&J. Ant was the glue, now the show's just broken.

Why is he totally full of shit? I've always found him to be pretty open and honest (for a radio personality). He calls himself out all the time for being a hypocrite. Jimmy is by no means perfect, but I think he does as good a job as anyone does of calling himself on it in front of an audience.
