Speaking of Top Five, I just watched it and I'm pretty sure although not positive that stupid Rich Vos makes an uncredited cameo at the end of the movie when Chris Rock goes into the Comedy Cellar. Can anyone confirm?
Let's not forget that Rich Vos was a writer for the Emmy nominated The 77th Annual Academy Awards (2005). Unfortunately for Rich, the 2005 Emmy for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special was awarded to The 58th Annual Tony Awards.
Vos had something to do with the production, I can't remember if he was wiriting or what, or if it was even revealed, but he showed up randomly on the day when they were filming the scene and O&A were surprised to see him. He seemed cagey about coming in because he seemed busy but he reluctantly hung out for a little bit. A cameo would make sense.
perhaps pandering is the wrong word. I thought the whole "Top Five" aspect of the story was something that plays far more to the African American community....and in doing so it kind of alienates a vast chunk of the ticket buying public (which is cool, if he went in knowing the film would have limited appeal).
mind you, I'm an (old)er Redditor and perhaps I am just ignorant to the fact that the whole "Top Five" thing is an actual thing.
I guess what I'm saying, more crudely stated, is that that key part of the movie is kind of knowingly and exclusively playing to a certain audience and, as such, felt a little pandery to me.
Not to get all race-y with it....but no love for the Beasties or Eminem in those top 5s....imagine that.
