Opie should buy out his and Jimmy's contracts and the two of them should join Anthony at the compound.

They don't need Sirius XM to be filthy rich, Anthony has the resources and friends to run a radio empire from his house.
Who cares about celebrity guests and whether they can get there easily, do phone interviews until the show builds respect and people WANT to come to Anthony's and have fun with the show.
Opie could take more of a back seat and the three of them can make the hangout they always dreamed of! They can fix all of this and the fans would be 100% behind it financially, they'd make loads more fans in the process.

O&A has been done for 6 months, dude. It's time to get over it.

Board ops do what they're told. They have no balls.

People in this sub continue to dramatically over state the value of these guys at this point in time.
Let's take a look at what you're proposing. Opie and Jimmy leave guaranteed high figure salaries to go sit in Anthony's basement and do radio. OR, they get a studio in Manhattan where they now have to assume high overhead.
Anthony charges $6.95 a month for his show. We can assume some math was done, and this figure was something that he felt provided him with a satisfactory payday for the product, AND that it would cover whatever costs he incurs.
But now, Jimmy and Opie need a cut too. AND expenses have increased because of the Manhattan studio. So naturally, they'd need to increase the subscription cost, right?
When we take an objective look at $6.95 a month for one show four nights a week, it's dramatically overpriced. Look at Netflix for example. For roughly a dollar more a month, you're a provided with access to thousands of movies, proprietary award winning series, and first run comedy specials.
If you're being honest, you can see right here that the dollar amount being asked for an audio/video podcast is a bit excessive to the average consumer when considering what you're getting for your money.
This isn't excessive to hardcore fans, but I would think it would be a bit prohibitive when trying to grow your sub base. Especially when you're walled away where no one can stumble across you.
So now they'd need to increase that dollar amount to cover all the extra costs incurred, and also so everyone makes a nice living. What would you be willing to pay for ONE show, so that all these guys could still be 'filthy rich'?
At what point would they start closing in on sub costs that are completely outlandish for their offering? After all, SiriusXM's 'All Access' is $19 and gives you what....150 stations...live sports coverage and tons of talk.
I fully believe that 'The Opie And Anthony' show could be reborn and successful as a podcast, but it would need to do what everyone else did...take a risk and not make money for a while. I just fail to see how this pay per month idea will pan out in the long run.
Look at the top podcasts out there....they didn't do it that way. If it were viable and logical, they would have.

How many paying subscribers do you think Ant has?? I cancelled after two months
2 AnudderCast 2015-01-29
I couldn't even begin to speculate, but I have read a bunch of people say they canceled. With most big controversies, I think people have an incredible initial interest, and then it dies off. Anthony has just placed himself in what seems to be a very difficult position when it comes to growth. He mentions not wanting to be subject to the rule of sponsors and such, but other podcasters have seemed to do it with a nice degree of success, while maintaining an uncensored atmosphere.
So is this whole thing just about him needing to say racially charged shit all the time? Is that his focal point? If so, then what success does he really deserve? That would be a sad statement coming from a guy who was so brilliantly funny for so many years.

Do you do anything else then drop truth bombs? Bravo!

As opposed to never being allowed to speak honestly about race once again.

I would cancel but unlike O&J I at least find Ant's show listenable. It's not really that funny because there's only so much you can do by yourself. I think not having a cohost join him early on is really going to hurt him in the long run because as we saw with Ant and Jimmy, they are at their funniest when they play off each other.
If he stopped with the daily racial stuff and got a cohost that was as funny and quick as him, the show would be one of the best podcasts out there. All that being said, I certainly don't mind the show at all, and it's a good way to kill the last two hours of my work day. Also, it doesn't induce rage like Tit's and Paycheck do these days, so it's got that going for it.

You are a man of great insight.
The OP is silty to purpose Opie buy out their contracts. Lol that's millions of dollars.
I say this over and over. I hate Opie but I realize he is over 50 and has a real family. He's not 30 anymore. I would not expect him to try this from the ground up again and make zero dollars trying to build something at this point in the game

Reality is that the O&A show is completely dead. Best case scenario is that Anthony gets a studio running in NYC at some point and can support bringing Jimmy aboard once his contract is up with SiriusXM. Opie would probably cost too much and the reality is that he's not worth it. Anthony was loyal enough over 20 years to earn the same amount as Opie, when it was clear which of the two was more talented and attracted more listeners.
As much as I despise SiriusXM, it at least provided a platform to bring in guests that you're not going to get on a subscription based podcast. It also brought some differing points of view, which again is something that is lacking on TACS.

The O&A show is only mostly...dead. And it turns out MOSTLY dead...is slightly alive. Imgur
I think the show will be back one day. Might be a while, few years or so. But I really think they'll get back together at some point.
1 MultiTwentyOne 2015-01-29
Im sure they will. I don't think any of them are doing incredibly good since the split. O&J is a laughing stock, and TACS isn't likely doing nearly as well as Ant could have done at XM. They'll all realize that O&A with J is the cash cow, and get back together eventually.
4 FortMark 2015-01-29
Fuck Jimmy. Ant offered him a position on TACS and he turned it down, so let him rot away to nothing with Opie.
1 MultiTwentyOne 2015-01-29
Jimmy would have been a complete retard to leave good money to travel all that way to do an untested new show with Ant.
2 opieanthonyjim 2015-01-29
So 1 year and 8 months left. Let's say Jim is at 500k at year and Opie is at 2 mil. That's 900k left owed to Jim and 3.6 left owed to Opie. Why would he pay that money when he could get paid that money? Not to mention I doubt neither Opie nor Jim want to do a show out of Ants basement and I can't blame them.
1 [deleted] 2015-01-29
He would lose 10-15% out of his fortune if that was the case, but he's got more than enough, Jim Norton is underpaid. They could split the money three ways at the new show and call it 'Opie and Anthony with Jim Norton'
1 MultiTwentyOne 2015-01-29
Lose the money for what? To go make no money?
2 WhoIsPurpleGoo 2015-01-29
Opie's not taking a back seat. He's made a career out of trying to become Stern. His ego will never let him and Ant get back together. It would be admitting he isn't good enough to do it on his own.
1 jimcozad 2015-01-29
He's not
1 DRIPSCBW 2015-01-29
unfortunately this will never happen
1 little-pete-ferguson 2015-01-29
That would mean Opie would have to spend money? He wore his wife's boots to work this week! He is a miserly cunt!
0 stinkskc 2015-01-29
You are one delusional dude.
