Jimmy "the Worm" Norton canceling Seattle.
61 2015-01-29 by [deleted]
I'm from Vancouver Canada and I have no illusions of Jimmy making it up here so when he announced his Seattle dates I was very excited. I booked the weekend off and booked a hotel room only for that worm to cancel. The tickets at least got transferred to his rescheduled date. I took another weekend off just to drive down to see Yimmy and he fucking cancels again. I remember him talking to Vos and Nick Dipaolo about how he hates flying out west for the same money he can make staying home. I hope he feels satisfied shooting whatever duderroo he's working on. He definitely showed his fans out west how much he doesn't care. I don't even like Jimmy's stand up I just wanted to see him and support him because it's Yimmy. Well Norton Shmorton I say.

He's a hack comedian tbh. I wouldn't see him if I was paid to. It's the standup routine of a 2edgy high schooler. Love him on the radio though.
18 Jewsus_H_Kike 2015-01-29
I saw Jimmy live once and the main highlight of the night was seeing Club Soda Kenny in person.
6 hookahreed 2015-01-29
Thank you, mister.

Oh and seeing seeing CSK stand watch when Jimmy is at a urinal is quite the sight... awkward.
5 ThomasAitken7 2015-01-29
Completely agree a few years ago a good friend of mine was trying to get me in to O&A and he said never watch Jimmy's standup eventually I did and I died cringing how can someone be so good on radio and that terrible on stage?
5 keithireland 2015-01-29
I think hack is a cruel word but he isn't a good stand up. His style would do really well in England though, they love his style of stand up. I do love him on the radio. I also enjoy Jimmy Carr and Frankie Boyle in interview but I don't enjoy their stand-up. They are huge in Britain.
1 rahtin 2015-01-29
Most standup is shit. They all try to act like their rehearsed shit is off the top of their head, and that dishonesty usually makes it to the audience.
They all have a skewed view of their stage abilities because their audiences are usually drunk.
1 keithireland 2015-01-29
I think Bill Burr, Billy Connolly and Richard Pryor are pretty good at making it look improvised. Most of the rest do fit into the bracket you are talking about.
4 [deleted] 2015-01-29
I just wanted a picture of him signing my meaty lips. Oh well.
2 no1raniuk 2015-01-29
Can we still see what that would look like?
7 [deleted] 2015-01-29
Just picture Buffalo Bill pulling size 14 cunt skin. Wouldja?

Possibly.

Calling him a hack is hyperbole. Hes not the best stand up working today but I saw him live and laughed my balls off.
12 kristal010 2015-01-29
sounds like hyperbole too
0 _TheConsumer_ 2015-01-29
Same here. Jimmy gets a ton of hate but he is a good, quality comic.
The first time I saw him was around 2004. He walked in to Dangerfields past midnight to do new material. It was the best material he ever had - the place was rolling.
He never once used that material again, on the show or at any of his standup gigs. It was disappointing - that routine really showed his comedy chops.
His stand up now is forgettable. That routine at Dangerfields was not. I think he agonizes over everything in his televised shows to the point where it comes off unnatural and rehearsed. It's awkward to watch.
2 ceslek 2015-01-29
I'm not a fan of any stand ups. Love all the comedians on the show, though.
44 APurpleSuit 2015-01-29
He's also never done international shows because he's afraid that people won't like him. Judging by the obviously failing careers of Amy Schumer, Louis CK, Bill Burr, Jim Jefferies, and even Colin Kane, he made the right decision not to do it. Better to stay local and hope that things work out. Also, talent.
18 xxmikekxx 2015-01-29
Not even going outside the country but outside his comfort zone in general.
I know he came up in a time where he was a tough guy NY "Cellar comic" that feels like he wouldn't be accepted by "alt rooms". So for most of his career was "yech...alternative comedy". But just hanging a little in that world would add so much to his fan base. He doesn't need to change his humor (Chip is the very definition of an alt-comedy character) and if he stopped looking down at those guys they would accept him. All the comics that passed Jimmy by (Louie, Burr, Schumer Peretti) all started doing both types of rooms before blowing up
All he has to really do is a few episodes of the "Comedy Bang Bang" podcast & they would love him. And CBB would have him based on the fact they already have a character named "Gino the intern" where the basis of the character is he wanted to be an O&A intern and always says Norton is his favorite comic.
One thing against Jim is he does seem to be uncomfortable being funny on podcast. He'd rather be "pontificating Jimmy". I think on Mohr Stories, Jay was really trying to get Jim to do a lot of Chip and Jim almost seemed embarrassed.
9 Bomyknocka 2015-01-29
Jim has made the mistake of thinking he's big enough that people just want to bask in his presence and hear what grand statements he has to make about life and sex.
From all his writing for Time and pretty much every other place you can hear him he seems to be going with "pontificating Jimmy" as the character that will propel him to the stardom he's always dreamed of. Which is a bad shout in my opinion.
2 xxmikekxx 2015-01-29
To tell u the truth though, a lot of comics that are way less known than Jimmy use podcasts to have "serious time". DeRosa is like that too. Or Paul Virzi. If I have to hear another podcast with Paul Virzi talking about his kids I'll vomit
I don't get it. I would think any comedian, who has a dream to succeed in the world of comedy, would use any podcast oppurtunity to kill with guns blazing. But so many just want to talk seriously.
1 rahtin 2015-01-29
His idea of stardom is a nightly talk show.
He wants the 80's back.
5 Mitchull 2015-01-29
I agree with you about Mohr Stories. What's crazy is you have big guys like Mohr, Quinn, Kevin Pollak who love Chip. There's something to that.
3 Sudley 2015-01-29
Because its a fucking great character, but for some reason Jim doesn't believe his characters could survive outside of the context of O&A fans.
1 rahtin 2015-01-29
Yet he has no problem trying to shove trannies down the throats of people who are still on the fence about accepting anal sex.
2 leonmich 2015-01-29
Do you have the episode, or link, when this happened?
4 xxmikekxx 2015-01-29
I'm not sure, I don't know how many times Jimmy did "Mohr stories" but I'm pretty sure it wasn't the first time. Jay was getting him to do chip & jim was playing along but he seemed uncomfortable to me.
If you listen to Norton on Rogan, Pollack or Carolla there's barely anything funny on those. Outside his comfort zone it's just pontificating Jimmy with some pervert jokes thrown in here & there
3 jsmill1 2015-01-29
Carolla makes it very hard for people he doesn't know well to be funny on his show.
5 Dannyprecise 2015-01-29
He doesn't leave the country because he bought into the false idea that "people hate Americans" which is patently false. Just don't act like an entitled fat American douche bag, and people will like you.
-39 young_beard 2015-01-29
How are Bill Burr and Louis CK obviously failing? I really hope this was not sarcasm I'm just not getting. That happens a lot. CK just sold out four nights at the garden, and Burr has a movie with Kevin Costner and an animated series coming out.
Edit: it's nice here on the bottom of the ocean. I think I will stay with this ship forever.
16 APurpleSuit 2015-01-29
Yes it was sarcasm. Listing people with success and shows would've been an obvious hint, I hoped.
17 lithium 2015-01-29
The level of stupidity around here boggles the mind.
7 rottenseed 2015-01-29
Does it? Lady Di, Bobo, and almost every booger-eating truck driver listens to the show. It should come as no surprise that I am borderline retarded too.
5 fattypigfatty 2015-01-29
Not to mention the guy the show is now named after.
1 iris201 2015-01-29

17 dxInt 2015-01-29
Is he cancelling over and over because the ticket sales stink? It's kind of sad how overly sensitive Jimmy is. He talks about how much he hates the idea of traveling to foreign countries to do stand-up, when all his successful comedian friends love it. That's just sour grapes, isn't it? Because they don't want him.
4 insanemetal187 2015-01-29
I always got the sense from Jimmy that he hates any risk. That's why he likes TSA and doesn't mind his privacy invaded for the illusion that he won't be killed by a terrorist. Building up a fan base on the west coast or overseas will take time and money, which could fail. Why fail when you already have guaranteed success in certain places?
It's not in the spot where he has to take any risks with his career, he's gotten comfortable and is happy making the money he has. While there's nothing wrong with what he's doing, he can't be upset when he's not a household name doing it.
10 Nickbennettc 2015-01-29
A man who chooses stand up comedy as a career and spends all his money on hookers and ladyboys is not averse to risk.
2 insanemetal187 2015-01-29
Well there's a lot to all of that. Being a comic is a way of being in business for yourself without a big upfront cost and knowing failure is more likely. Also to get into comedy he had to once have that drive to be good at it and once your reach a certain point there's easy income or a mountain of work to reach the next level. Look how many failures an outsider like CK had to put up with before finally breaking through. No one handles that easily.
With the hookers, after the initial approach, which is safer. Paying a girl so you can cum then shit goes away. Or investing in a relationship and having to deal with the fact that she could ruin most parts of your life with certain words.
Ladyboys was obviously just a mistake when going to his normal routine.
1 TriangleDimes 2015-01-29
We need to think back and remember that Jimmy getting this gig put him up there as a big shot. While everyone else was struggling and floundering, Jimmy was the guy on this big radio show and I bet people thought it was a big break as they struggled to make failed pilots. Flashforward to now, and you see Jimmy in the dust. Such a radical shift, it's crazy. I think at one point he saw it as part of his career, and now he talks about it like it's a gig.
16 ryanasimov 2015-01-29
Count yourself lucky and get your money back. Jimmy is the absolutely the fastest and arguably the funniest person in the O&A world on the radio. His stand-up is just plain not funny; it seems like a completely different persona. His voice pitches up and he's way too distracting visually. Other than some topical references his humor hasn't adapted to modern audiences.
6 BTY2468 2015-01-29
NAHT FUNNY!
3 AiCPearlJam 2015-01-29
While I would agree with you when O and A were still together, Jimmy focused most of his energy on the show. I've seen Jimmy four times over the last three specials and this year, and now that the show isn't doing well I can say Jimmy is getting better on stage. I saw him New Years Eve and his jokes were stronger than times past. He ended the show with the screen coming down and bashing the ball drop and Ryan Seacrest. He stayed on stage an additional fifteen minutes and genuinely looked like he was having fun riffing for a live audience.
To me, it's obvious Jimmy is starting to venture out now that he's realized that O&J probably won't be growing into something bigger or better. I thought his stand up was the strongest I've seen since his Monster Rain days. Yes, he still makes social commentary jabs, but the jokes were much stronger than previous times I had saw him.
2 -Palaver 2015-01-29
I'm not the biggest fan of his stand up specials but I've seen him live once, right before Monster Rain and laughed my ass off the whole time.
15 boogsuge 2015-01-29
I'm also from Vancouver. He was scheduled at a theater in 2013 that I bought tickets for and guess what....... CANCELED!!!!!
5 [deleted] 2015-01-29
I'm still pissed I didn't go see Vos when he was here. I remember him talking about his visit here and to Granville Island. "I went to something island."
3 boogsuge 2015-01-29
yea, those old school O&A guys hardly ever come here. Would be nice to see Colin. Attell never comes here.
2 [deleted] 2015-01-29
Hopefully you saw Bill Burr and Jim Jefferies when they were here last year. There are a lot of real comedy fans in Vancouver once you weed out the offended uppity bunch.
1 MonsterRayn 2015-01-29
I'm annoyed that Vos made a trip to Florida, nigh 5 minutes from my place of residence, and I had no idea he was there until a month after. Zero promotion on O&A. And I don't recall hearing anything about it on his podcast. He could be one of the worst about plugging his shit.
1 truthie 2015-01-29
I saw him when he was here in Vancouver. Really funny. Mostly just trashing the audience, which everyone loved, except the two people that had to be kicked out.
11 benjamin72 2015-01-29
He cancelled TWICE? That is bs.
9 chippersonlyle 2015-01-29
"Cancelling dummy, what's the matter can't spell?", Jim Norton. Its funny that the worm used to shit on people for being grammar Nazis and now that's his go to on twitter.

Norton's stand-up wouldn't do well in the UK. If his act was more like his off-the-cuff stuff on O&A, he'd kill. But his stand-up isn't Burr/Louis CK/Jefferies standard.
And sorry for you mate, that stinks. The ticket may be re-funded or shifted, but it's not like he's going to reimburse you for the hotel and travel. Thought he'd be better than that, i.e. only cancel for a serious medical/family problem.
1 keithireland 2015-01-29
I don't know how a country with Michael McIntyre as its biggest act can claim they are above Jim Norton. I am not a fan of Norton act but he would do well in Britain. Britain love topical comedians like Frankie Boyle for example.
6 glyde69 2015-01-29

Don't understand it either. Guess people are still mad with SiriusXM and target Opie and Jimmy instead. It's sad.
5 phlammo 2015-01-29
He'd cancel emergency triple-bypass surgery if it meant he got to take a photo with some stupid celebrity he's never heard of.
4 chris2webby 2015-01-29
I hope Ozzy cancels his trip to Mexico with Jimmy
4 guitarmy21b 2015-01-29
Does Seattle really need a guy to blink his way across the country to tell jokes about stalking drunk bitches and sucking tranny dick? Go to any open mic and you'll hear Jimmy's act.
2 Chumpstlz1 2015-01-29
Hopefully his spot on @midnight will help him see he can be found funny to people who normally dont see his comedy. He killed on the show, and was getting the bigger laughs by far.
2 _TheConsumer_ 2015-01-29
I know comics typically cancel if the room isn't filling out as quickly as they would like.
That being said, Norton is at a point where he demands a price for his appearance. He gets paid regardless of draw.
Now, he may also get a portion of the door - which could mean a small crowd = less money for him. But, never less than the base pay he negotiated.
My problem with him canceling gigs is, he isn't dying for money. He has 6 figures coming in from SXM and (probably) 6 figures coming in from stand up.
Why not take the hit with less draw, in order to open yourself up to new markets?
2 AirplaneStrikesBack 2015-01-29
I've never liked his standup much... too topical. But I like him on the radio.
2 kgt5003 2015-01-29
He obviously cancelled because his dates weren't selling out and he was humiliated.
2 justchippinyaaaa 2015-01-29
Yea, I have never understood why he just doesn't take a chance at international shows, everyone has always pushed him and told him he would kill in the U.K, etc. I guess he has said how hard he tends to be on himself, self-esteem, etc.
2 pitstained 2015-01-29
Jimmy's material has a built-in obsolescence. I heard someone on the show say recently (might've been Ope) "he's got a lot of great Cosby material" and I cringed. His news-of-the-week routine is a failure from the start, and he's actually taping this garbage? Stop acting like a late night host you dumb bell.
2 rubbishmyjunk 2015-01-29
"why would i invest in expanding my brand duh huh im a giant faggot why is amy more famous than me"
What a self-absorbed twat. It's not like he has a wife and kids to leave behind for A WHOLE DAY. Fucking hit up craigslist for a night and you won't have to leave the self-hating hooker-fucking back home.
1 harriswill 2015-01-29

1 DRIPSCBW 2015-01-29
He has tons of fans in Canada, but he never does shows up here. He did Toronto during the holidays, but that's a nice safe location for him. You're totally right, why doesn't he go out West? frustrating shit
1 holden190 2015-01-29
Norton is an unfunny hack. Bad material, worse timing and presentation. He do horrible, I'd take Sam over Norton. And Sam sucks big time.
0 Chipswolfwolfie 2015-01-29
This post makes you a dumb stupid idiot person. Eat poop
1 xBrianSmithx 2015-01-29
I saw Jimmy recently in San Francisco and his current act is good and hardly any noticeable blinks at all.
People bitching in here just like to be bitchy. Not you OP. That is frustrating as hell for us working stiffs. Having an event you were looking forward to and planning for cancelled really turns a high into a low.
-37 ib--90 2015-01-29
Shut up you self centered cunt.. you're acting exactly how Opie would.. it's all about you
12 [deleted] 2015-01-29
Fuck off. It just shows how much he doesn't care about his fans and it's maddening. It's not about me. The only thing I want about me is an obituary. I'm just showing my frustration about him canceling twice. The place offered me tickets to any other "feature" comic. Last time it was Adam Ferrara. Hopefully this time it'll be R Budd Dwyer.
3 michaelcolestie 2015-01-29
Maybe he didn't get enough people to buy tickets to justify him going out there
5 GameVault 2015-01-29
Well how about he just sucks it up, do the show for the people that bought tickets, check out the city, and just not book any more shows out there. Sometimes you just gotta take the hit. It's not like he lives paycheck to paycheck and he isn't going to make rent.
5 rottenseed 2015-01-29
Exactly. And maybe he promotes. Somehow gets free tickets out there to gain new fans. Believe it or not O&A were never big out here in the west. I don't know anybody else that listens. So Jimmy has to earn a rep the hard way like most comics. He's found this shortcut to success but it is limited.
1 cali_gunner 2015-01-29
Budd Dwyer references have been funny lately, even Opie got a successful one in.
2 breadmoccasin 2015-01-29
He's really not though. Jim has always touted how loyal he was, and now he does stuff like this. He'll probably complain about not drawing out east now, in a room he's done a billion fucking times.
