Twitter was the ultimate demise of the show. Discuss

Opie always talking about quitting twitter. Maybe I wouldn't hate him so much if he did and never mentioned it again. Twitters so fucking stupid and if you think about it its what was the ultimate demise of the show. Greggshells pathetic obsession and Anthony's twitter rant getting him fired. its only purpose seems to just make celebrities feel relevant. I use Instagram and rarely Facebook and so do almost all my friends as far as social sites are concerned, does anyone here actually use twitter for anything but talking shit to Opie?

Well some people can blame a social media site that millions are on. I personally blame alcoholism and a lack of self control for the demise of the show. Opie was always awful but they got through it.

I'll actually be truthful and blame an uppity negress assaulting someone as well as black apologists at gawker and Sirius XM's pussy behavior.

I always love how the negress is the one to blame. Because she has the corporate job to protect, right? Or was it the guy that irresponsibly went on a violent race rant on twitter who had a dozen jobs to risk? No, let's blame the prostitute for his actions.

ME: Twitter, what's the end game?

Toe trigger, etc.

What do you expect when fans can freely talk to three old, thin skinned shitdicks and there isn't a screener to weed out "troublesome" responses while others feed their narcissism?

Being banned by all three I have to say I agree. I don't blame Opie for banning me because I went with a Bam slam, but Jimmy and Anthony banned me for nothing but the fact they are thin skinned pussy boys.

He used the term before twitter, but Opie's usage of the word "hater" has always bothered me more than it should. You're a grown ass man in your 50's.

Especially when the man was essentially a professional hater for his entire career.

Haters gonna hate.

Hold on hold on HOLD ON!!! I've been threatening to quit Twitter too...

THAT'S THE BIT!

Eww, has he? Did he seriously say he was going to quit using it?

For years...

I use twitter for NHL news and shit but other than that, its a waste of fucking bandwidth, and everyone involved with the show's obsession with the site really bothers me for some reason. Grown-ass men talking about twitter like they are some high school kids.
Its a ridiculous-ass attempt to stay young and hip, and "in the loop", and it just makes them look like total asses.

It's the popular kids needing validation from strangers to remind them they are still popular.

Twitter was just one of the major nails in the coffin.

The others were the Sirius Merger, Opie getting Married, and Patrice's death

  • Louie and Bill Burr getting famous
  • Ant's obsession with Obama (and race in general. I'm all for race jokes, but he would just go off on endless, unfunny rants, much like his twitter fiasco)
  • Norton toning it down (possibly in an attempt to land a late night talk show, which will never happen)
  • Too much Lady Di and other assorted weirdos

So many things contribute to this show's current state. Am I missing anything?

I've always wondered how many of these were just symptoms of the main causes.

For example, I've always suspected the reason they no longer dick with guests is because Sirius clamped down on it. E Lo/XM understood what the show was about and never would have done that. (I've also wondered if it was the Paris Hilton interview that was the driver for that)

I can imagine management stupidly hating the Paris interview, overreacting to bitchy gossip-column mentions or blackball threats from nobody publicists or whatever. But if there really was a management crackdown, I'd think it came after that time they had Andrew Breitbart on and showed the world Anthony Weiner's dick.

Weiner was being groomed to be President in 2020 or so, got his arranged marriage into political royalty, was early-leading the mayoral race, etc. Having his cock shown to the world actually boosted his standing with the public, especially NYC women voters, but that was a counterintuitive effect, not what they (you know...They™) thought would happen. And Weiner soon went on to expose himself in the wrong way and ruin his (dick's) image forever, but...

I'm saying there's this other world, and we're only bugs in the shadow of it, maaaaaaaan.

Didn't the Paris and Breitbart shit happen the same week? I remember thinking our boys are finally gonna make it! They were hot. For about four days. Then soon Patrice died and Louis and Burr got weird and boring TV dipshits were on every other day and Jimmy got pompous and Opie got doubly retarded and Anthony got too crank-y and the whole show went ass.

Bunch of coincidences, I'm sure, but it'd be cool if some real shit went down that from our angle only looked like a radio show floundering.

SPILL IT CUMIA

Agreed on all points except the last. Mike Bochetti is really the only one I don't enjoy.

And yeah, losing Patrice, Burr, and Louis was a monumental blow to the show. They never quite found a new set of young comics to make regular appearances.

Opie was still awful before twitter, it was just a different kind of awful.

Those were the glory days of his coattail riding

Twitter's useful if you're interesting. Opie isn't. Ant is just dumb when it comes to posting stuff he shouldn't be posting.

Yes.

Highlighted best with their disdain towards people who 'didn't have many followers'. Because no one would just read Tweets from their favourite celebrities or close friends. It's just another fame competition.

Their most annoying view is that '[being negative on] Twitter is like coming in to my living room and insulting me'. Your living room =/= public forum. If you can't handle all sides, go private, hide your Tweets and shut the fuck up.

If you hate Twitter so much, why are you on it then? Uuuuggggggghhhhhhhh

Seems like a valid question to me.

twitter isnt to blame. opies annoying obsession of getting mainstream fame is. he had a show that for a long time had integrity and a decent sized fan base that made him many many millions of dollars but that wasnt good enough. spuds needed to be on tmz. o and a was way too dark and niche to get the popularity opie was looking for.

Someone please find Opie's Myspace. I know it's out there somewhere.

Ant's twitter is bad (race obsession, arguing like a child). Opie's twitter is bad (ME, ME, ME viral viral viral, unfunny man trying to be funny). Jimmy's is awesome. That's all I have to say about that.

Can't wait to see another Hot Can plug.

Every comedy podcast I listen to has had many moments where the host and guests specifically bitch about twitter.

Comedians can't shut up by their nature, but the whole thing has convinced me that many major celebrities are reading comments from random trolls.

Has twitter given Op a taste yet? Just one tiny little envelope?

I use it to follow/talk to the show and shittalk random people that bug me.

Figures that complete waste of space Opie brought it to the show. It would have caught on eventually, but still.

I would say it goes beyond the show. I wouldn't have twitter if I was on any platform because its shit and its too likely for people to misunderstand you. Many a person has been taken down by that shit site.

When has Twitter HELPED the show? Tweeting the Anthony Weiner thing? They were pretty ashamed of that one it seemed, and nobody even remembers it was O&A.

That didn't help the show nearly as much as Opie pretends it does.

Yeah you're right its not a great post. I'm just trying to get a grasp on if people here actually use twitter . I'm not pompous .

It's not so much that the post sucks, it's that this discussed alot. Plus pretty much everyone knows twitter ruined the show.

Didn't mean to be redundant my apologies

It's all good, you are right though.
