I don't understand "going viral." He's not trying to get his voice out there. He has an international radio show.

All the videos that went "viral" were connected to the show. Shouldn't he focus on making the full time international radio show that he gets paid handsomely to do the best it could be? It seems counterintuitive but he'd be more likely to have a viral video if he stopped being such a tryhard going for one 10 times a week.

It is bizarre for somebody to try to "go viral." The viral thing implies a happy accident that was picked up by people and spread. Being a tryhard with viral videos looks like it basically guarantees failure.

I think going viral is validation to Opie that he's justas creative and funny as everyone around him. That's just my armchair psychiatrist opinion.

The conversation about it on the show was just the worst shit. Opie was ALL IN and nobody else, not even Louis, had anything to say about it. "Yeah it's my dog being stupid. It's on my YouTube page. So anyway—" And Opie kept harping on it for twenty minutes. Eventually, way deep into it when everyone was tuned out, he congratulated Louis on...getting YouTube "medals?" Something like that. Dead air. Nobody knew what he was talking about. Turns out there's some obscure rankings link hidden on the page, and if you click it—nobody could find it when he was demanding to see it, so Opie blew up and shouted at peons for a while—you'd see Louis had this week's third hottest dog video in Poland, shit like that. The room was so thoroughly burnt by then, nobody even tried to riff on the "medals" (or Polish videos, or...).

He's been ruinously obsessed with this shit for a decade now.

Eh, I think Jimmy Kimmel has tried a couple times to make viral videos -- but he actually succeeded -- and he tied it together with his late night show pretty well. Opie just sucks, has zero creativity, and zero talent.

He did two that I can think of - the girl twerking who knocks over a candle and her leg catches on fire, and the wolf in the hall of the Olympic dorms.

If he solely posted show audio and maybe animation like Jason, Steven K, DiscoDog, Cokelogic etc. He would probably be better off in view counts and subs. Instead, he keeps going for this "man on the street" impromptu comedy bullshit.

From what I understand, your video goes viral, which means a lot of people saw the video, and then NOTHING! It's not like you'll be remembered and talked about for generations. People will look at the video for two days, and then the next big viral video will appear, and Opie won't even be a memory. Besides, people never look and don't give a shit about the name of the person in the video anyway! Is there a really exciting part that I missed?

I have a theory. I think Opie's obsession with viral videos is loosely connected to the same reason he is so jealous of Howard. It doesn't take a shrink to realize that Opie desperately wants to be more well known than He is, and wants A-Listers to Want to go do his show before Howard's. He wants to be invited to events that celebrities attend, and he wants them to know who he is. He is Never going to accept the fact that he's never going to be bigger than he is right now.

Look at all the times he spends 25 minutes crying about what Sirius gave Howard that they didn't give Opie. And the 500 times he's whined about Howards salary, and Christ! The Adam Corolla thing he cried about on air for 30 minutes was because Opie is jealous of any celebrity or big podcast host that's friends with Howard, because he wants those people to like him

The funny thing is every time he whines about Howards success, while Jim & Ant sit quietly and uncomfortably, he Always ends the sermon with two things! First he says "I'm not mad at him. If he can get those type of deals, then more power to him."

Opie has 13 videos with more views than Joe Rogan's highest. He has 29 videos that have 250,000 views or more.

Objectively he's pretty successful at it. So is Joe, BTW, but Opie definitely has done well from youtube.

But seriously, with the income stream he has, and the wealth available to him, it's entirely feasible that he could've bought 16 million views. Anybody who has the listening audience that he claims to have, shouldn't have a hard time getting people to watch his videos and get click points on youtube. Even the listeners who have stayed on / the one's he has now, hardly visit his clips. The clips that have the most viewers are the ones where he has filmed in studio. Those aren't bad and people actually want to check some of those out, but his lame attempts at humor vids.. not even the fans he has now want to see them, even worse, he will rarely mention them on the show (which should get him a shit load of clicks) because if he did, he would get hammered, even by people who still listen.
