I'm in my early 40's, single, with a lifestyle far closer to Ant's than I probably should admit. I can list many friends I've lost close contact with over the years as they turn into married with children pod people.

Opie has kids now- I think it's really that simple. My buddy had a kid recently and he's almost dead to the world. I totally get it. Just the nature of the beast. Opie has drooling, crying kids to deal with while Ant is still assfucking teens in the jacuzzi. Just different lifestyles. Opie is a master at shifting blame. He does it with everyone. All the negative comments from fans? Haters. Missed something cool for the show? Anthony's fault. Don't think he's funny? No problem, he has more money than you.

I'm not saying Anthony's bachelor lifestyle didn't contribute to their separation, but Opie is no easy person to deal with. He's temperamental and demanding. He probably went out to visit Anthony just so he could throw it in his face one day.

also he's blasted the fact that they aren't friends in a very over-the-top sarcastic way, on more than one occasion. He's MADE that call more than Ant many times.

Why would the quality of their friendship have anything to do with the quality of the show? You just assume that it does. It isn't like people who hate each other have a track record of failure in their joint endeavors throughout history. In fact you could successfully argue the opposite.

There have been other incidents like this as well. Seems like a lot of the tension has been from Ant ignoring Opiea attempts at friendship in favor of fucking 17 year olds.

Except the show was in it's prime after they stopped being friends. The Piscapo saga was fucking awesome, as was most of the radio they were doing up until 2014. The show took a big nosedive in quality when they brought in Tim Sabean and made Sam executive producer. Had nothing to do with Opie and Ant's relationship turning sour. They haven't been close friends since they got fired for Sex for Sam, from what I can tell, and yet their most entertaining years of radio happened when they came back from that.

Imagine you're Anthony: would you want to be friends with that guy? Of course not.

Their lives are the complete opposite. if you were Ant, and you had a choice between staying home, partying, and banging girls of questionable age? OR, go to Opies house, sit quietly between him and Lyndsey, and watch the nanny kiss the two kids goodnight, and put them to bed?

Once Opie got married and had kids he and Ant couldn't of had different kinds of lifestyles. Combine that with how long they have worked together its not surprising that they didn't hang out all the time. Wife and kids suck up nearly all your free time and when you do get away to hang you just are not the guy you used to be. For better or for worse having kids changes you.

Worse. Especially for friendships. Everyone I know who has kids turns into a bore.

Honestly the tension between them was overblown. For at least the last 2 years, basically after Danny was fired, Opie and anthony got along great on and off air. I was definitely noticeable compared to previous years.

And still don't know how anyone brings up Opie's name at all as a contributing factor to ants firing. That's on the panicky suits and Anthony.

That's frustrating because it seems like they worked most of their issues out by mid-2013. They were interacting on Twitter with the "tag-out" thing when Ant would go to bed in the early morning as Ope was waking up. And Opie even mentioned once, when Ant agreed with him on something "I'm glad we're getting along so well lately."

It seems like O&A had come to and understanding that few people who are even best friends get together and chat for 4+ hours, 5 days a week, and it wasn't awkward anymore that they didn't hang out outside of work.

And to bolster OP's point slightly, I was kinda disappointed when they mentioned that when Sam, Travis, Kenny, Jimmy, and Opie went to the Sears Tower to go in that glass box at the top, Ant didn't go because he was in another part of Chicago at a casino.

Finally a sane interpretation of events.
