The same can be said for Stern. Without guys like Artie Lange, Billy West, Gilbert Gottfried, Jackie Martling and Stuttering John, funny guests (primarily stand ups and comedy actors) and a steady rotation of quality retards, Stern's show is a tedious 4 hour ode to multimillionaire egotism that relies heavily upon news segments and long interviews to drag itself to the closing bell. Stern was always the ringleader sort. I don't think he's individually funny, at least not intentionally.
People who don't like Opie and Jim sometimes say they switched to Howard. Its the same fucking thing.
