In the moment, his episodes of rage/psychopathy were genuinely amusing and made for good radio most of the time, but looking back over them it's rather creepy.
This is a very small showing of all of that. There are lots of examples, mostly during NEW but also XM, where he did shit like this for little more than his own amusement. Ant would almost always tap out, or at least show some empathy. Opie has issues.
I think he wishes he could be the guy with no empathy. The cool I don't give a care badass. But he is an admitted coward with self esteem issues. He could not be liked based on his personality or talent, so he resorted to being a hacky shock jock. And even then, no one really liked him.
