This clip has everything, too-smart for the room Jimmy gets his facts wrong, Opie yelling hold on and thats the bit, Ant quietly laughing at the clusterfuck...
Caller speaking -
Opie/Jimmy begin to interrupt -
Opie/Jimmy scream at caller for not immediately stopping mid-sentence and allowing themselves to be cut off -
Caller is criticized for being an asshole
I hate how Opie thinks he needs to slow every single thing down for the audience. We understand what the caller is talking about, we don't need further clarification.
He has always had contempt for the audience, always "spoonfeeding" things. When he says let's break it down or set this up, he is in radio parlance "spoonfeeding" the audience as if he were a parent giving baby food to us. He stated that repeatedly. It is particularly galling because Opie is so clearly a dull and stupid person.
The worst part about the spoonfeeding is that it delays the pace of callers' stories. Not only does 'breaking it down' slow the conversation to infuriating lengths, but it also creates an unnecessary amount of buildup for a call that wasn't meant to be stretched out and built up anyway. And then Opie gets pissed off that there was no pay-off at the end and shits on the caller for not bringing a better story to the table.
I know it's nothing new, but I only recently recognized this habit of Opie's where he buys minutes. He's referred to it before, and it seems that he believes it's a good radio-formula. Fill those quarter-hours! Gotta drag stuff out! This is the method of someone without confidence or ability to contribute novel content. It also explains his fondness for "lists" and "music breaks". He does EXACTLY what they bashed John & Jeff for when they dragged out their shit (will time-stamp later):
The sad thing is you know it was moments like these where Opie really thought to himself that he was some kind of radio master..
As if getting people to slow down a story takes true genius
"Have fun with Mark Sanchez!" - The opster's interrupt the caller with a local sports team reference at 37:37. This clip has all the obnoxious Opie features.
ME: HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON, I like breaking this shit apart.
ugh i skipped to 25:00 and the very first thing i hear Opieraqio contribute to the show was "HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON.. we have a caller who wants in VERY badly" and what was it? an idiot who called in at the wrong time and with a bad reference that opie just laughs off like he had nothing to do with the shitty caller making it to the air. Then i let it sink in that opieraqio has been doing this for 30 years and had to tap out there.
God Anthony is just so much more intelligent and has the ability to explain himself so much better than Opie. Caller says they are wrong about something. Anthony listens and tries to explain, OPIE: HEY DUMMY WE WE KNOW THAT IDIOT WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT STUPID

I heard him say "if there's any Andy Kaufman fans out there" the other day.
No Opie, just you.

The way Opie says "bit" makes me want to bite his face.
3 BeerCanThick 2015-01-02
He calls any sort of joke or discussion "the bit" when none of them are bits.

Isn't that the same Jerry that called Opie out?
