Ron told Fez about how Opie posted the hypnosis audio but didnt listen to it. As he started laughing, his guess was Opie didn't want to get pissed at the audio. So basically, Ron knows how thin skinned he is, either that or a liar. Opies radio hero laughs at him.

If Opie was actually smart he would hype a radio war and throw oil on the flames. This would be the perfect opportunity for actually entertaining radio : a war between Opie and his radio hero, it's too good an idea for Opie to do it though. Opie is "performing" on the radio. He knows thousands of people are listening (which makes his broadcasting even more pitiful) but he is only letting a little bit of his true self show. False bravado, all those lies, fake stories, and declarations of being too cool/manly/straight/whatever, are all about him portraying someone less douchey than himself.
Shit, they don't even make fun of him on-the-air because he gets all bitchy. As self-proclaimed "head of the show" you don't think it stops at his passive aggressive on-air comments, do you?
Imagine him behind the scenes. All those years being considered #2 to Howard and fans telling him he is shitty, while Anthony and Jimmy got all the praise...
Ex-staff members have been known to badmouth Opie most of all. I would assume they get a first hand look at the egomaniac in action. I'm positive anyone who has been around the studio, especially Ron: someone who can smell bullshit immediately, knows the deal with Opie

Ron is so sharp. The way he subtly patronises Opie and marginalises him is so unfaltering and so precise that there's no way for him to even rebound from it. Nobody can see through a phony like Ron.
