"I know the listeners hate this, but tough shit" hundreds of times. If you don't give a shit about the listeners, why do the show..? I can't recall Ant ever saying that, btw.

What you're talking about is those times when he's going back into a running bit that a couple of the most hardcore listeners are already tired of. He does it because the non-hardcore listeners might not have heard it yet. All radio shows do this. The difference with Opie is his self-esteem is lower than zero, it's in the negatives, so he feels the need to apologize, or at least to acknowledge it in an attempt to head off the hate.

Ant has said many times he hates the callers. Kind of the same thing right?

But suddenly now those awful callers keep his lights on. And we have to hear them blab on.

Everyone hates the callers. Then they had to deal with them either creepily kissing their ass or trying to shit on them on Twitter, or recommending videos and stuff to them. "Hey Anthony, you oughta check out this Legion of Skanks podcast, it's really funny!" I can kinda see it his way.

I would say the difference is the wording. As you said, Opie essentially goes "tough shit; I (think) I know what's good." Whereas Ant, like when he picks up on Lady Di or Bobo, apologizes profusely to the listeners about it. Ant also has more compassion than Opie for the listeners and will end the call before it gets too boring.

How dare you. Ant can do nottin wrong, hes a saint on eart or sumphin tss.

He's said it a million times but if he bothered to read criticism you would hope he would learn to stop doing things the listeners find shitty.

Podcast Ant loves callers...it must be genuine right?
