Need a third mic - Why not Sherrod?
4 2014-12-10 by revmike
Yes, the show is worse without Anthony. Some of the bashing of Opie is justified, but I also think it is over the top as well. Most of the time, Opie needs to play MC and let two other voices riff. Opie does not do a good job of riffing with Jimmy, and Jimmy is often left swinging.
With a different guest in that seat every day, sometimes there is someone who can hang with Jimmy and make a great show. Sometimes there isn't.
The show needs a permanent third mic. I think Sherrod would be a great choice. He can hang with Jimmy, he brings interesting perspective to the show, he is really funny. I would be eager to tune in every day for Opie/Jimmy/Sherrod.

There is no way Sirius is shelling out anymore money for this shit show. There's never going to be another third mic.

Completely right, I don't understand why this needs to be a discussion after every single guest.

I'm sure Sherrod wants to anchor his career by joining the O&J show.
He's got more freedom and better guests/cohosts on Race Wars, plus Kurt Metzger is getting more popular

Probably could use the money and exposure from O+J though

Do you think jimmy would want to go back to his "third mic" role if their was someone as boisterous and confident as Sherrod on the crew?

yes. and yes. from what it sounds like hes really not being paid on the cohost pay scale even though he is a cohost. so to go back to what hes best at while making the show better and at the same time being overshadowed by the black man? are you even familiar with james norton?

Sure. Jim just wants the paycheck. He's going through the motions.

3rd mic means pay cut for the other 2.

The show was shit with Anthony for months. At least now they have comedian guests more than once a fortnight to compensate for the the gaping hole.

Let's be honest the show was shot with ant for months before he was allegedly assaulted.

They been slacking for so long it takes ant being fired to finally motivate them to get some new faces in, like Todd Barry and Alexandro

thats exactly what sherrod was thinking this past week as he tried to fake laugh his way under opie's narcissistic wing

There is no reason for them to get a permanent third mic. The show has no intentions of improving itself or trying to increase the quality of the show. The show can get as many comics as they want to come in (for the most part) and do the show for free since most comics will literally do anything to promote their gigs.
Sirius won't pay the money since Opie and Jimmy got most of Anthony's money with the new raise they got for resigning. Also, I can't imagine any comic that has self respect wanting to become a permanent member of the show. It would be career suicide. Just look at what it did with Jimmy. His comedy hasn't evolved or improved for years. His stand up has been mostly the same stuff since Monster Rain.
Any comedian serious about their career would be foolish to join the show if the offer was ever made.

Sherrod is great on the show. Hes very quick witted, has a shockingly large index of references to all things white people and flows with jimmy great. Hes probably the only other comedian besides soder that brings a positive, high energy to the room without having to resort to the almost universal misanthropic comedic attitude...while at the same time not being a tame PC faggot.

Sherrod is good but the show isn't getting any more money from the company. That said, I'd rather Dan Soder or Florentine, but only if Opie stops asking what pisses him off. We get it.
