Patrice Oneal book

I've been wanting to write the book Patrice never had the chance to write. Basically do my research by listening through the Patrice Oneal archive on Youtube, Black Philip, Other appearances I can find, Stand up specials and videos, interviews, etc. 100% credit him and release it for free in his memory or maybe charge a small amount and have it go to his mother.

Thoughts?

EDIT

You guys misunderstand. I don't want to write an autobiography. I want to write an advice book.

A short book based on his ideas on being confident, getting women, etc. Like every time he had a great way of thinking about something O or A would tell him to "write the book" but he never did.

I believe his wife is already doing this under her name. Don't rememb where I heard it but I know she's doing like advice segments on relationships on BET and whatnot.

Is this Ian Halperin undercover?

GOOGLE IT!

I'm sure he'd want me to profit from his work, right?

I clearly said release it for free or any money just go to his mom

Time for the autism test methinks.

My thoughts are that you should jump off a bridge.

If you want to write an appropriate biography, you will need to expand your source material beyond publicly available material and reach out to his friends, family, colleagues and those inspired by him. While it might sound like a scary/intimidating thing, but trust that you'll find that as long as you approach them in a nice, professional manner and are honest about your intentions they will likely be open to sharing their memories of Patrice with you.

What I'd encourage you to do is write a one to two page treatment which would outline your goal for the project and the path that you purpose taking to achieve that goal.

At this stage, the financial aspect should not be of any concern rather the focus should be on developing a strategic plan that will serve as your blueprint to bring your idea to fruition. If done properly, this blueprint/treatment can be utilized to convince people that you reach out to for interviews that you are serious and worth their time.

Most importantly, avoid arbitrary deadlines; at this stage you need to focus on the basics:

Who: List of key people that you feel are essential to appropriately tell Patrice's story.

What: Allow people to understand your reasons for wanting to write about Patrice and the aspects of his life and his comedy that you plan on focusing.

How: A detailed outline of the topics you will focus on to appropriately tell Patrice's story. Include everything that you find important to demonstrate that you have a strong foundation of knowledge about your subject and share what sources you plan on utilizing in order to bring your objective to fruition.

This process is not going to be a quick turnaround, manage people's expectations; be honest that you are currently in the research stage and plan on spending months developing source material.
