The thing I don't get is.... who fucking cares if they're one hit wonders. They have a handful of cd's that are fantastic. Opie would know this if he even had a slight interest in music culture. He's a fucking blowjob.
There are tons of great No Hit Wonders. You wouldn't be able to listen to Bob Marley, The Ramones, Wire, Miles Davis, Dropkick Murphys, Judas Priest, Primus, King Crimson and a ton of other unlisted bands.
This is just like when Opie mocked Troy for saying Faith No More was his famous band, talked about their "hit" song Epic with the flopping fish music video, and immediately dismissed them. The Opester didn't play them on Opie's Nighttime Attitude in Long Island a lot so therefore they are worthless.
I wouldn't say they were one hit wonders, but rather that they just had one or two songs which were a lot bigger than any of their others (Breathe and Firestarter). They've had 5 studio albums, 4 of which went to number one in the UK, 1 of which was number 1 in 9 countries including the US and went 4x Platinum.
They had a brief comeback in terms of mainstream success a few years ago, at least here in the UK anyway. Maybe they just weren't as popular in the US, and in the Buffalo rock radio scene in particular.
Either way, is anyone really even that surprised anymore when Opie exposes himself as not knowing much about music?
There was a time in the US when they were huge. I even remember chris rock making fun of the breathe or firestarter video when he hosted an award show one year. All three of their US hits got massive radio and mtv play. Rock radio stations(atleast in DC/VA) still play them from time to time.
Just pointing out that one hit wonder is not a relative thing. It is a band that literally only had one hit. Like 867-5309 guys or something like that.
Also, if it makes a difference, he didn't use the term "one hit wonder". It was the slightly more dismissive "one and done". For those that don't listen, the 'one' was Smack My Bitch Up. Not either of the ones that did better on the charts, but the one that had a tiny bit of controversy. Or in Opie's recollection, went VIRAALLLLL!!!
I love The Prodigy, but their mainstream recognition in US began and ended with Fat of the Land. So I can see why a disc jockey would think they were one hit wonders. Plus, Baby's Got A Temper bombed so bombastically their reputation in the US never recovered.
Breathe and firestarter were both huge hits on the radio/mtv and smack my bitch up got radio play in the US as well. That video also had some controversy around it. Youd think a disc jokey would know shit like that.
Well in all fairness, 99% of the audience is tripping balls. You could tape a laser pointer to an oscillating fan and then let feeder mice crawl across a synth, and you'd get the same turnout/reaction.

He's a blowjob? Are you saying he's terrific?

Not all of us enjoy having a dick in our mouth.

You should just go with it; if they enjoy it, they finish sooner.

Who cares if a band is a one hit wonder? Most of what makes the radio is the band's worst output.
Plenty of top tier talents have never had a Top 40 song in their home countries.

Which makes them not one hit wonders.

What's your point?

Ignorance and arrogance is a lethal combination.
They've sold 25,000,000 records worldwide.

I hate these old cunts who shit on anything remotely electronic.

I don't think he meant to shit on it. He's just stupid. Kind of like Randy Marsh not being racist when he got the Wheel of Fortune answer wrong.

"Smack My Bitch Up", "Firestarter" and "Breathe" were all huge club hits.
5 boofk 2014-12-01
Not even just club hits, they played them constantly on rock radio for years.

Opie does not know who Prodigy is, he heard Doug Benson mention them and is now all in.

A 1998 disc jockey would get a pass. A 2014 one who has done a music break every fucking day since then, not so much.

Fact: I enjoy Prodigy once in a blue moon.
