Most Opie bashing predates Ant's firing and has little to do with him not leaving. As far as I'm concerned, if you can't understand why Opie stayed, then you're a fucking moron. A man who subconsciously knows he has no skills and has a $1 million salary (give or take) is not gonna leave that job when he's got young kids and a wife in an expensive apartment. It's an easy job with little to no work required (particularly since he does no show prep other than a half hour of skimming newspaper headlines), vs. doing a brand new thing out of Anthony's fucking basement and making a ridiculous commute every morning.
The real problem is that Opie just isn't a good broadcaster without Ant as his crutch, he's uninteresting, he doesn't open his brain to anything that isn't already known (and the shit inside his head is liable to change at any given time based on what Florentine or Jimmy says). He's a braggart. He worked hard in the past and I respect that he got to where he did, and he definitely took some chances in the past with producers and PD's. But for the past many years (since satellite at the very least) he's been a sit-on-my-laurels douche who blames everyone else for his own lacking ability. He's always been super-defensive on a show where everyone else gets skewered for doing that, often by him. He gets away with things others would get killed for.
He is hypocrisy incarnate. He is the black KKK Grand Wizard from Chappelle's sketch. He's made a career of criticizing those qualities of himself which are present in others. It's his best and only skill, probably because he thinks it at a mirror every night. My hatred of him could change if he was open, vulnerable, and honest about what he is. He is the opposite of these things. And fuck you, Joe. If you were just a nice dude and not an obvious coattail riding cunt, I'd probably give your show a listen. You undeservedly pompous cunt, your self-ignorance is smothering. At least be honest in your interpretation of unimportant events such as the opinions of us Reddit shit-heels. Fuck. I still need some catharsis after listening so regularly for so many years, that's the only reason I'm here. I realize how much time I waste here. Even if I spent half of it jerking off, I could still attempt and fail to do great things with the other half.
