“This show is so much better without Opie. I feel like I can breathe! First time I’ve been in the studio with that feeling. It is like there is more oxygen in the room!”
It wasn't a joke. Opie's had it in for Lewis ever since he went in-studio with Stern but only called into O&A in 2004 (this was literally days into the new XM gig on a premium channel).
I used to think people were kinda paranoid saying comics hated Opie, but between this and the Dane Cook thing, he really is a fucking hack and I want to know what Jimmy thinks about being tethered to a show with him.
I'm guessing conflicted. I'm sure Jimmy notices Ope's flaws, but Jimmy has worked with the guy for over a decade, and dare I say, owes part of his success to Ope for putting him third mic. That is not to say Jimmy hasn't earned it, but somebody has to notice the talent and make the move.
I mean yeah Jim isn't as known as Louie or Bill at the moment...but its not like the man is a bum living on the street. He has a successful radio and stand up career with a loyal fan base. I don't buy that Jim is bitter about his friends successes as people here like to think. This is a dude who lived at home until he was 30 and now he's got a very nice paying career, place in Manhattan, gets to make a living doing what he loves. During 2014 alone he got a show on vice, a pay raise on the radio, and his Time articles help introduce him to a new audience outside of comedy. I feel Jim is very grateful for where he's at (not grateful to Opie, just in general) in life.
I don't think we should measure success to Louie's yacht.
Jimmy should have thought harder about it before signing that contract. It can only be he feared losing the meager paycheck they deign to give him. He's better than that and now it's fucking with his reputation as a comedian to be on a shit show.
Dane did an apperance on o and j to promote his special, opie spent almost the entire time reciting the jokes at a obviously annoyed dane cook (All before the special aired) when asked on facebook, dane said he will always appreciate how opie stood up for him but if he ever sat and recited his material like a maya angelou poem, he would throw hot soup in his lap
Opie is a dullard non- comedian trying desperately to be a comedian. Truth is, he's a slightly smarter than average high school jock type with mommy issues, an overinflated ego and has gotten some good money out of it. But enough already. Todd Pettengill should put Ope on 3rd- 4th mic. He's fit right in with those zany folks.

Jim needs to open this on air. Like now.

He has been on since then.
Lmao some of you really crack me up with how desperate and eager you are.

Because it wasn't an obvious joke or anything...

Your knowledge of this based upon absolutely nothing at all but your own guess is sure convincing.

No, it doesn't. I'm just correcting you wrong idiots. Sorry for destroying your precious delusions.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

Since he was talking about being able to breathe he could have been referring to being rendered breathless by Opie's hypnotic tits.

BREATHTAKING AND BUXOTIC, OPIE'S MARVELOUS MAMS CAN RENDER ANY MAN SPEECHLESS! MONDO RADIO!

Owes part of his success? How come all the comics Jimmy came up with are more successful than he is?
10 ballpitpredator 2014-11-07
Jim as no where near as good of a comic as the other comics he has on. i love the guy but its true, hes no burr, louie, patrice, etc.
Radio has a fat paycheck even without the recognition though.

I never really liked Iimmiys standup, but he's fucking harious on radio.

That wasn't my point - I wonder if maybe Jimmy would be more successful if he spent the last 10yrs working only on his act and not on the radio.
4 Heavy_Pump 2014-11-07
Ah I see. My mistake.

Please fill me in on The Dane Cook thing. I don't recall any beef between him and the Opster.

Now that u mention it, I think I do remember that appearance.
3 TriangleDimes 2014-11-07
There was a thread posted about it this week where Dane did an AMA and admitted, while being a fan of Opie, that he was pissed about it.
