What led us to this?

Deep down we all knew Opie was a hack but we always gave him a pass until what? Was there one event that finally pushed us over? Was Opie just a scapegoat for pissed fans who no longer had their show? I realize now it's just fun,but what happened that got it started ?
Was it the resurfacing of the "leave it alone" video? It really makes that hack sound like an ungrateful motherfucker if you ask me. That's what did it for me.

I think it's a build-up for me. Coasting on Ant's firing, resigning. Jerry "The Hater" called in and instead of having a discussion, Opie goes into defense mode ; says company likes the direction of the show. I realized he's a hypocrite. Then the roach on eggs bit happened. I just had an epiphany that this fuck was a sellout. It's probably outrage that I spent years defending this shithead and this is the real Gregg.

Yeah, the 'coasting on Ant's firing' was the worst for me. Right from the start he should have stood up against management like he always claims to do. He really showed how big of a phony he was right there, and how willing he was to separate himself from his partner of 20 years.

He lost me with Twitter and Youtube bullshit. He honestly puts more effort and time into that than anything he has ever done on his show. It has been dragging the show down for years.

The Baby Boy Antics of pulling videos that make him look bad with copyright claims (How to Chain Your Dragon, Nopie shows, a full channel of Nopie shows and now the Hold on! video) has made me totally turn my back on Opie.

He's a thin-skinned bitch. Opie made a career out of shit-talking. Now he polices Youtube when his feelings get hurt.

Opie always thought he was somehow the star of the show but Ant being gone is really "pulling up his skirt" to quote Patrice. He's thoroughly exposed as a disc jockey hack and Zoo Crew douche with his hour long music discussions and "wacky" stunts like the roach eggs thing.

I just can't shake the feeling that he's Scorch with even less humility and self-awareness.

For me, it's been building for years. The Nopie shows didn't help Opie's cause because it showed what a great free flowing show it could be without Opie. On Nopie shows it was like when you had a substitute teacher in school. The show was run by Ant and Jimmy and the conversations would just flow. Then Travis or Erock would let them know when to take a break. Even the staff seemed happier and more willing to chime in when he was out. They would actually talk about things people wanted to hear about and they wouldn't be interrupted every 10 seconds. There were so many times over the years that I wanted to hear Anthony and Jimmy talk at length about Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, or The Walking Dead but never got that because shit dick can't take an hour to watch a show! He had one kid at the time and he's fucking rich! Find an hour! If he didn't watch a show or read something, he wasn't interested in talking about it on the show. He's a lazy self obsessed asshole and with Anthony gone it's showing now more than ever.

1) He couldn't keep his mouth shut and let 2/3 of the hosts talk about the most popular show currently on television. He could have let everyone else talk about it and sit quietly until it's over. Instead, they get out "Did you see Game of Thrones?" and he cuts the knees out from everyone, "aughhhhh being a Dad is soooooo much work, I don't have time!" 50 minutes of television, from the busy 20 hour work week, where you make enough money so your wife can stay at home with the kids...

2) He watches all those shitty reality shows. Housewives of who-gives-a-fuck, 90 Fiance, etc. Forces everyone else to sit through that. Don't talk about the most watched/talked about show in the last 5 years, but dig in for a bunch of gossip on the latest "reality" show that amounts to the same number of minutes

Didn't you hear? That's what is popular with his audience, only haters watch game of thrones

*Game of Throns.

Thrones*

No, Throns. Ask Opie.

I don't wanna!

Whenever somebody says Game of Thrones I think Ronnie B singing his theme song for the show. "Its all THRONES when you play the Game of THRONES. THRONES!"

For me, it was the constant interrupting, how he mispronounces words on purpose, and how he only talks about his twitter and youtube, thinking he is this big celebrity. He is turning exactly into Hoo Hoo. What really set me over was when the hypocrite re-signed with SiriusXM after years of bitching about management. He had a perfect chance to leave and start something new with Anthony, but he just couldn't let go of his ego. I haven't listened to the show since Opie and Jim re-signed. Jim isn't funny without Ant, Opie is a douchey hole, and there was no more erock jokes. Opieraqio Sucks.

It's a lot for me. And I wrote a lot in retrospect, but I'm really fucking emotionally invested in this show. It got me through some really rough times in my life since I started listening 5-6 years ago (back catalog included). I hated old Opie, liked him in the past few years because he stopped trying to be the focal point compared to 2005-8 (father material excluded), and now new Opie is killing my ability to listen. He used to stop momentum all the time, and now he prevents it from ever getting started.

And his Adam Carolla feud thing rubbed me the wrong way. I love Adam. He's not the kind of person to do what Opie said he did at all. In fact, it sounded like nothing to begin with, and he just decided to dislike the guy because he was in Stern's camp. Same with the old Artie fight he had.

The worst now is the Dane shit for me. I've been doing stand-up for a little less than 2 years (I'm not a professional). But if someone did that to me with my bits, just ripping premises out and discussing them with other people and purposefully making them unfunny, I'd be fucking livid. It's just a shitty thing to do, and you can do it to any comedian. These bits are fragile. I thought Louie did an amazing bit about Clifford the Big Red Dog on his Beacon special. Imagine if Opie said "Louie, you had an interesting take on why the Clifford the Big Red Dog books were dumb." Now it's naked and the surprise is ruined.

And then Dane was asked on Facebook about it, and he made a post saying he was annoyed, but that Opie had been a help to him in the past so he just ignored it. He also made a joke about throwing soup in his face if Opie ever did it again. How does Opie respond to the post? "Hilarious!" with an at-mention of Dane. It's as if he's fucking insane. He really lost me with that tweet more than anything. I don't know what happened to him, but that tweet pushed me over the edge. Just apologize, you cunt. And apologize for the abomination that was roach eggs. It's like for this year's Jocktober they decided that instead of criticizing shitty radio, they would just do shitty radio.

I think it's safe to say that Opie did not actually find that hilarious.

when the cunt took Ant's money, and took it for less hours, did it for me.

That and he is now broadcasting to an audience that Ant cultivated over the last 20 years.

Aside from realizing zero effort was going to be put into the show early into o and j, my tipping point was colin's apperance after being on ant's show (the very relaxed very funny show including the drink spill which resulted in a lot of fan art) and they spent well beyond an appropriate amount of time wondering out loud if shaq would come in (being a friend of the show, based on politely saying he had a good time on his one apperance)

I stopped listening daily at that point and went back to podcasts.

When I realized Ant or Jim could do a solo show but Mr. 30 years in radio couldn't, and was even taking fridays off to avoid them.

ME!!!!

It was funny when you were doing it. Now it's just hack

sorry, been out of the game awhile. no point dealing with asshole if Ants not there to grace my ears.

Yeah but people used to get mad at you and downvote you, which made it funny. Now you'd probably get upvoted for anything you said.

Deep down we all knew Opie was a hack but we always gave him a pass until what?

Correctamundo!

If I had to pick one factor it might be the switch to 4 day weeks. The Howard hypocrisy couldn't be ignored any more, and after a few months the rest of the awful qualities he always had came more in the spotlight. I could easily be wrong, but I think if they had gone right through the Anthony firing with all 5 day weeks, things wouldn't be too different from how they were before, where we just sort of made the bad-taste-in-mouth face and rolled our eyes at the douche. They might never have reached critical mass.

Another way of looking at it, he effectively removed Howard as the common denominator villain for both the show and its fans, and opened the door for him to replace Howie as that. Really, really dumb move.

Fans always gave a pass to the hosts of the show.

Opie's a hack but people were willing to pretend he wasn't. Anthony's a racist but people were (and still are) willing to pretend he isn't. Jimmy's a really shitty standup comedian but O&A fans still pack out his shows.

Opie's pass was revoked when he didn't walk with Ant after years of tough guy talk.

I'm glad he didn't but I can see why people are pissed at him. And he's acting like an even bigger douche now that he feels like he has to pull the ship instead of just guide it.

Two things turned me, first was him turning on the fans, second was him turning on Jimmy. In that order because that's the order it happened in to my ears. I never thought of him as an intelligent contributor to the show but he was good at throwing random shit into the discussion and being the "jock". With the thinned staff and demoralized fans the show can't afford him to treat the fans or Jimmy like shit.

He turned on Jimmy? When? I haven't been listening.

Kinda yeah, Jimmy played the 'Hold on' video and Opie got really sour.

he is devoid of entertaining skills, he can't provide what people have exepcted and gotten from something he was attached to for 20 years

Second show after Ant got fired. Jimmy and Ron were hilarious the first day, so it was a bit of a distraction. After that day Opie became the star and all of his lack of grace filled every show.

you hens are all right!

This thread reads like an AA meeting. "My name is michaelcolestie and i hate opie." would you like to share with the group?

For me it's when I realize lots of shit he said on air is a lie

Opie is a qualified moron, and any attempt on his part to seem smarter than he is completely backfire and make him look even dumber. The faux-deep "ever really LOOK at water" horseshit, his irritation that the iPhone wasn't invented the day after the Titanic sank ( I WISH I could remember what day/show it was, but this cretin was actually pissed people in the 1920s hadn't "figured out" smartphones.)

I could forgive his absolute idiocy if he wasn't such a blatant hypocrite. Spends his career trashing anything he thinks is "uncool" or "hack," but turns around and pulls the same lame shit. Makes himself out to be this take-no-prisoners wild card, but can't take his turn in the barrel. I honestly believe if he'd gotten his ass beaten on a semi-regular basis when he was growing up so poor he had to take ski trips and join a yacht club, it would've taught him some goddamn humility.

And to the botched abortions who say, "Well, just don't listen!" in their best Loves the Internet Guy impression: that would be a perfectly acceptable answer if this hack morning zookeeper was on FM where he belongs, but if I'm paying a fee for a service, the product I'm receiving had damn well better be of a superior quality than the steaming shitpiles I can get for free.

He's a fucking hack and I hope his gold-digger wife takes the two lottery tickets she shot out her cunt and divorces his dumb ass. If I had a time machine I'd take a roadtrip to SUNY Genoseo and beat Opie to unconsciousness with two dozen candy bars in an old cement bag.

Once Ant was gone his lack of funny just became glaringly obvious. What made me actually dislike him though was when he started conflating any criticisms with "hate". A shitty radio show isn't going to make me dislike anyone, but with this "haterz" shit, I begin to have disdain for him as a person.

You wouldn't think that losing Ant would change the show to this extent, but it has. Ant wasn't a third or a half of the show. He was more like 70 percent of it. Opie was less than 20 percent and now he has to do the heavy lifting and he obviously can't pull it off.

Are you kidding? He's 0% at best, at worst his contribution to the show is negative. Watch Jimmy's multiple TACS appearances or any nopie show for proof

I think it was him getting the HOLD ON HOLD ON video removed. There were things before that, like that awful YouTube video of the pumpkin bitch. But after seeing the comments that he leaves on his Twitter, in reference to us, I think that he deserves shit like this: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aiUixO3qyA] Be sure to download this video, who knows how long before it's yanked.

I've always hated Opie. I could never recommend the show to anyone I knew for fear they'd listen to an Opie-heavy show and think I was retarded.

Was Opie just a scapegoat for pissed fans who no longer had their show?

Opie is a hack who definitely deserves some of the hate he's getting (and responding to it in the worst possible way), but I feel like this is the real answer. This sub hated the entire show for a year before Ant was fired. The redirecting of all that hate onto Opie and acting like he was the only anchor dragging the show down is laughably dishonest. I don't buy the "He should have stood up for Ant!" or "He should have walked after the contract was up!" excuses. We all know he and Jim did the smartest thing they could do and that the O&A show was dead for good the moment Ant was fired.

What was the "leave it alone" video?

here what it is, you were losers fans, the show was everything to you and now that the o&a show is over you have to do something with you useless life so hating opie is what you chose. its the thing to do now, like hating justin bieber and nickleback

This sub is the result of people's inability to cope with the fact that the O&A show is over, and a handful of multi-account unemployed obsessives who post on here all day. Making fun of Opie was funnier before Ant left, because people would get mad and the quality of posts was higher. It's become boring and repetitive now, and there are hardly any funny posts anymore.

You really think all this hate is a few people with a bunch of accounts?

No. Do I think that a few dozen obsessives post here from multiple accounts? Definitely. It's so obvious. Look at some of these people's posting histories.

Five obsessives posting multiple threads and commenting on themselves can really turn the tide of this sub in a day. That 9,205 subs is bullshit. There are multiple users here who post like 20x a day. Get a job and be more funny.

"Get a job and be more funny"

What kind of intellectual disability convinces you that this is a good way to end an argument?

Maybe it'll touch someone
