The boys have awful opinions on music.

Shocking, I know. Listening to a clip from 2008 and they're discussing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Opie about The Stooges "I've been doing this radio thing, you know I used to spin records, I know a LOT about music. But I can't name you one Stooges song."

Ant: "Too hip for the room stuff."

Jimmy: "Run DMC in... Nice. Run DMC but no KISS. That's good."

Opie proclaims his love for Godsmack and we all know that Jimmy only listens to Sabbath, KISS and Metallica. Ant is just as bad with his undeserved smugness which, by the way, stems from his insecurity. Projecting this insecurity into anger directed at people who he perceives as being pretentious. And it's hilarious because he'll do this to the fucking Stooges. As if they're really obscure shit.

Throughout all the commonly shared grievances most of us have, this one bugs me the most. I skip any music segment. It's the only thing that makes me roll my eyes listening.

The stooges really went downhill when Shemp left the group.

Got a nyuk for life...

HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON

This is exactly why i got annoyed when the O&A show were dissing the Ron and Fez openers/bumper music that hicks used to do a while back.

Those dopes have no room to say what bad music is when they listen to that bland, boring horse shit.

Bad but at least peppered some humor in.

Ron and fez features some top notch tracks. Ronnie B knows his shit.

Exactly! I hate that they've gotten rid of the cool openers.

Can we fuck up the pace of this bit for a moment to listen to this entire song and praise The Stones for this?

Opie is too riddled with asbergers to actually enjoy music and Anthony's too insecure to admit he likes anything due to decades of being called gay by his father.

Jimmy's thirst for new music dried up when he turned 13.

Ant has openly admitted to listening to SXM 70s on 7. That was at least 5 years ago. He doubled-down with the 70s on 7 when he bought the dinosaur.

You can find this crap online if you're willing to dig for it. I'm not.

Best description I've heard.

Ant shitting on Jazz as always bothered me. None of his other racial stuff bothers me to any significant degree, except for the hatred of jazz music.

Same here. Norton, too. How can you hate guys like Louis Armstrong or Duke Ellington?

The two things that have always bothered me about Ant, his hatred if good beer and jazz.

He couldn't play it in a coverband and therefore its worthless.

Sporadic jazz is the most horrible music outside of country.. a bunch of pretentious cunts doing their own thing. It's not music at that point, it's just shit.

A lot of people hate jazz. I like some of it, but if you've ever been in a waiting room stuck listening to bad jazz, it's enough to make you want to throw yourself out a window.

That's contemporary jazz usually. I listen to a lot of jazz, but that is god-awful music.

Jazz is terrible tbf.

Jazz is terrible dude.

The worst part is when Jimmy climbs up on his soapbox and declares Black Sabbath "The Greatest Band in the World!" with a tone that implies he's got a giant abacus somewhere, and a super-secret formula known only to him and a select few metal-geeks, that have scientifically proven this somehow.

And on top of that nonsense, he's got the galls (yeah, I made up a word; so what?) to call Zeppelin overrated.

I can't stand their musical opinions, and yeah I agree there's insecurity in the anger and smugness. They're not big music buffs, fine. But they don't gotta hate what they're not familiar with.

They complain about how "pretentious" Radiohead is that they don't play 90's alt. rock anymore. Just because they don't "play the old hits" and went in another direction artistically, they're pretentious?

Not to mention all the butt-rock worship b.w. Opie and Florentine.

It seems they don't want to open their minds about music which is strange because they are open-minded about other art forms like comedy.

Any time jazz is mentioned I tune out also. I wonder how they'd react to the likes of Captain Beefheart or later Coltrane stuff.

Radiohead is pretty fucking pretentious, man.

nice point, brilliantly argued, i can see you've put lots of thought into this

They have awful opinions on most of the shit they talk about. Half the time they are talking out their asses and 98% of the time the opster is lying. Opie with Jim featuring Sam is fucking dreadful

They like Godsmack. Enough said.

OPIE likes Godsmack, and he's pissed that he tossed their demo CD out of the WAAF van in the '90s.

Do you (DID YOU) even listen to the O&A show? This topic has been covered countless times.

You dope. Do I? No. Did I? Yes. It's unlistenable now.

But as I recall... The last time 'Sully' was in studio, both Opie and Jim were praising the new album. Yuck.

And yes I know the back story... Opie has beat that dead horse as well.

Why am I a dope in your mind?

If you actually LISTENED to O&A, you'd KNOW that "the destroyer" has been kicking himself in the ass since 1995.

Opie allegedly tossed the Godsmack demo out the window of the WAAF van when the boys were in Boston.

He later lamented the fact that "Rocco" discovered them.

This is absolutely 100 percent true.

I still can't figure out what kind of music Ant likes. Just standard classic "welcome to the jungle" type shit?

Someone on here once described Ant as "a hits guy." That seems to be the best description. He will turn his nose up at nearly anything obscure, which is understandably irritating, however he definitely knows a solid 50 years worth of hits.

I think he's just into '90s 'alternative' and '80s buttrock

One song Ant loves for sure is More Human Than Human, I was listening to this show randomly and got the biggest shit eating grin when this part came around

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5RKSXdFfss&t=1h18m20s

This makes me happy.. White Zombie was the shit.

He's into whatever gets the 15-year-old into the car/jacuzzi/bed/abortion clinic.

WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP NYAHH NYAHH

It's not so much that they have awful opinions, but more that they discredit anyone else's opinion. Especially people who know a hell of a lot more than they do.

Opie goes with what everyone else likes. He is Sam.

Jimmy will only like KISS and OZZY and everything else he has no passion for.

Ant, when he was on the show, liked some Alice in Chains and some other 90's bands.

But that's it. They don't listen to new music and almost make it a point to not listen to anything new.

They don't know shit about it, but they shit on anyone who would say something that didn't go along with what they think. That's what always bothered me.

Jim has said nice things about Five Finger Death Punch far too many times for me to ever take his musical opinions seriously.

I like how Opie likes 90's alternative stuff because that's what I grew up on. Outside of that, horrible.

Opie was well into his 30s when the 90s alternative stuff broke. It's weird he identifies with it so closely.

He used to spin those type of records right? There's probably an element of reminiscing going on there.

Late 20s. BWAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Ant and Jimmy have hilarious opinions on bad music however https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eT8uIno9TlQ

c'mon, what about Buckcherry

or "pour some sugar on me" rocked back in the day

Music is subjective. There's no such thing as awful opinions about it.

It might be subjective, but you can have a more or less educated opinion on something that's subjective, and discuss it from an objective standpoint, (i.e., technical ability, sales, commitment, etc).

99% of people who "discuss" music, just circlejerk about how amazing their favorite artist is, and everyone else needs to understand how shit their music is. Metalheads are the absolute worst when it comes to this.

Metal is filled with the most snobbish mental patients. They'll shit all over a band or entire sub genre if it doesn't fit whatever narrow range of criteria they deem to be 'metal' or to be the appropriate formula for a good metal song.

Yeah. I mean, I fuckig love metal, but the fans are terrible.

What a gay reddity answer. And completely wrong.

Kek. Let me guess, your favorite music is "good" music, right?

You're so much dumber than you think you are.

Plingo. That is why whenever someone asks what music I like I tell them I don't listen to music.

If I could up vote this a thousand times I would.

I love the music breaks where they bash shit. It's hilarious to hear Ant and Jim confidently voice strong opinions with almost no knowledge.

People who are smug about their obscure and varied musical tastes are pretty shitty too.

lol @ how annoyed you are over this
