I think Opie has some sort of burdening mental illness. Clinical depression manifests itself into decreased cognitive abilities, low comprehension rates, and physical fatigue.
This irritating asshole must be suffering the corrosion of his cognitive abilities, and he's probably too prideful and ignorant to approach the consideration of medication.
A typical page of writing take 45 seconds to a minute to read. Now, a close reading for some sort of academic purpose would take longer, obviously. However, for something like Jim Gaffigan's book, 6 or 7 hours seems reasonable for a 300 page work to be read aloud. Furthermore, reading aloud is slower than reading the printed word, often half as quick as reading it silently.
I simply do not believe Opie when he says he reads a lot, or at all.
