O&A Fans Are Living A Nightmare.....
23 2014-10-23 by [deleted]
As a daily listener for 10+ years, I really feel like I'm living a sick nightmare when it comes to watching my favorite show degenerate and devolve into what it is now. really felt like O&A were just beginning to get their overdue respect, with all the comedians that they brought to the forefront finally blowing up. Their show clips on youtube getting passed around. Just felt like more people were finally noticing the show. And then BAM the show falls off a cliff. Now we're stuck with morning zoo radio that we listen to daily out of habit. It's fucking torture. Opie sounds like a delusional egomaniac. He calls the show OpieRadio??? Really?? Well i guess its the perfect name since its complete shit. Does he not realize how unlikable he is coming off as? This shit show isn't gonna last with Opie as show runner and Jimmy alone having to work off of the piles of shit opie lobs at him.

I felt this way 2 months ago but have since stopped listening. You'll eventually do the same, as will everyone else in this sub, and we'll all be left here, sadly reminiscing about old times.

But we can still hate Opie even then
3 Ignatius_Oh_Reilly 2014-10-23
Yeah I'm a big Ant fan but all three the last few months it was just really stale. Before the firing the sub was all complaints about it, now with Ant gone, it's gotten really bad.

I love these outraged threads, like people actually thought Opie was going to somehow improve. He forgets words as they're coming out of his mouth.

Opie represents every mental illness.

The show is as fun as going to the hospital to see a relative wasting away from chemo treatment. The show should have been cancelled. The plug should have been pulled. In 6 month's time the show will be at Terri Shiavo levels.
They're not even a month into a new contract and they are talking about crepes for half an hour. Will somebody please smother this bed-ridden devolution with a pillow?

This Ant firing was Opies chance to strike out on his own, silence the haterz, and show he deserves his status.
Sadly it is only working out that way in his own mind only, and his ballwasher sycophants like Sam.
Ant is putting out a superior product despite not having the overwhelming resources Greggshells has.

It really isn't that much better. Both Opie & Jim and TACS are mediocre radio; not anywhere close to the O&A show.
3 AntsCamera 2014-10-23
Fair enough sir, but O and A is done.
I happen to think both are relieved the partnership is over.
0 gsbird1065 2014-10-23
I think so too, yeah.

I think one of the two DEF is not.

Once Ant started his show and it was clear that OnJ were re-signing, I thought "great, two pretty good shows". At this point I like Ants show, although I do skip through it sometimes when the topic or guest isn't interesting to me. I also think that he needs a good 2nd mic to work off. On his own though, he's far better than OnJ, and I'm a Jim Norton fan. Since Ant left I have been skipping entire segments of OnJ and even more recently, have just not listened at all when I see the guests and topics that they cover. Far too much Soder and I don't mind Soder. Far too many dumb music breaks and 90 day fiancée type breaks. I will continue to check in (for free) but I don't have much hope for it unless a good guest like Colin is in.

The downer about Ant's show, for me, is that it happens live when I'm not able to watch/listen. Part of what made the show great is feeling like I can contribute at any moment. It's still lightyears better than the morning alternative though.

Have you heard the callrrs on Ant's show?
1 Threkin 2014-10-23
You know you can use the rss feed to download the shows to your phone, don'tcha? Link to FAQ
1 TankRizzo 2014-10-23
yeah, listening isn't my issue, it's just that I have family and shit going on when the show is live and can't listen DURING the show. I've been listening to it like that in the mornings.
11 rahtin 2014-10-23
I've been listening since the first Egg Nog Drinking Contest. I knew one of the guys in the competition from another forum and that got me to listen.
The show has been a major part of my life since then. I even started to hate my boss a little when he got satellite radio and became a Howard fan.
The show is over.
Ant's show is the closest you're going to get to an O&A show. He has hot girls on and people are having fun. If I want to listen to a disinterested millionaire interview who-gives-a-shit celebrities, I'll listen to Howard.
The future is going to be the Soder and Jay Oakerson show. We'll see what Sirius does to try to ruin that before it can take off, but I'll be putting a lot of support to that when it rolls out.

60 years old and Shitbag can't do a show on his own!
Every other regular friend of the show they know are doing TV shows , radio shows and Pod-casts solo.
-3 pfgposter 2014-10-23
Yeah, all the friends who are doing TV shows "on their own" like... well, just Louie (Burr and anyone else working on a show has a full staff, writing teams, etc.)
And the guys doing podcasts solo like... Burr... and... wait, that's basically it.
It is great to not like pesky things like facts get in the way of the rabid Opie bashing, though.
-1 gsbird1065 2014-10-23
But Ant does his show all by himself!
Oh, wait . . .
-2 snoopkhat 2014-10-23
spose if Shitbag come in without Jim he would be doing it without Sam ,Roland, and etc.
LOL

Im afraid this show will last cause they believe they are releasing a quality product. Only thing to do is jump ship. Im slowly moving away, i used to be all in with o and a but find myself not even caring if i hear any of them.
5 HeyBuddays 2014-10-23
I don't know. I thought 2010-2013 was pretty goddamn horrid.
4 maynardsabeast 2014-10-23
I still like the show. I think they should just hire soder as third chair. He's great and is getting better as time Goes on. It'll never be as good as o&a (obviously) But I'm not on board with all the hate. Hopefully ant comes back after a year and they make a huge deal about it and actually publicize it and bring all our favorites in that day like Louie, soder, Colin, bobby, florentine, and vos. Anyone agree that this idea would be amazing, and with the right hype and PR can actually propel the boys up into a new level. Cuz like you said, there is definitely a lot of new eyes on them because of the comic friends success and the availability of youtube videos.
Shout out to VIDEO&A dude and the too liberal Steveyknight

Bashing Opie relentlessly has helped mitigate my frustration. His awfulness is so fascinating that it must be discussed and studied by this and future generations.
1 TriangleDimes 2014-10-23
"Never Again."
3 Dre013 2014-10-23
Still like the show...I look at radio hosts like my dancing monkeys. I pay, they entertain me when I need it, end of transaction. Both Cumia and Opie continue to do that and I don't take it too seriously...no goofy hashtags, no protests. Jocktober was very good today. Sam still sucks bbc.

"Now we're stuck with morning zoo radio that we listen to daily out of habit"
So break the habit, I did. I gave them a few shows once Ant was fired (i canceled my sub the morning of July 4th after reading Ant's twitter and he confirmed his firing) through download and it didnt click with me. And i dont even really bother with the opie hate, i mean it's fun to make fun of him on here by calling him a talentless douche but that's about it, it's more of a thing where norton doesnt really seem to know how to play off of him and to be honest it seemed like in the last 6-8 months even Ant wasn't having very good chemistry with Op. But like i was saying, move on man; there are literally hundreds of good podcasts out there, Ron Bennington is still doing radio, and you have Ant's show if that happens to tickle your fancy. I honestly don't understand sticking with a show you obviously hate, why torture yourself when you could be listening to entertaining shows that make you laugh?
3 OctopussCrime 2014-10-23
The show is over yea. A nightmare though? A little melodramatic don't you think? The dude with the 100lb scrotum is living a nightmare, not radio listeners that have a million other podcasts to listen to.
Jesus christ, get over it. Its just background noise.
2 cornball1111 2014-10-23
Only way to save the show is make it opie and regular Joe
2 Zenaesthetic 2014-10-23
I listened to O&A everyday as well, I was legitimately depressed after Ant got fired.. I'll only listen now if there is a legit good guest, and even then it's still doesn't hold a candle to when Ant was with them. Fuck SXM, seriously. NOTHING would have happened to them as a company if they had kept Ant on, but they folded like the bunch of scared white people they are and now the greatest comedic radio show the world has ever known is is a thing of the past.

Your favorite show ended a few months back.
1 cornball1111 2014-10-23
There is no balance. I really don't like having to hear jim constantly running with whatever he can grab on to. It's just a constant barrage. He was the ringer and now he is just constantly cranking out jokes and it sounds like insanity
0 lelgimps 2014-10-23

0 ComedyDeathRay 2014-10-23
Jesus dude, just stop listening. Check out Ants show or some podcasts or something.
2 thebestoftheweek 2014-10-23
Today: "just stop listening to the show!"
Tomorrow: "everyone stopped listening to the show."
The day after tomorrow: "remember when there was a show?"
-4 gsbird1065 2014-10-23
No, the name of the channel is OpieRadio; the show is named 'Opie & Jim'.
SiriusXM Satellite Radio is responsible for naming both, not Opie.
7 thesynking 2014-10-23
I don't think SXM would care enough to name the show/channel.
"OpieRadio" was probably Opie's idea. It makes sense, OpieRadio is kind of a brand on its own. He has over 300k followers at @OpieRadio, you know? And they're ALL authentic.
5 Weheardyou2 2014-10-23
Now now there not all authentic the opster "doesn't mind a few egg followers" when he's "checking his numbers"
3 thesynking 2014-10-23
I hope that egg quote was just something he would say rather than something he did say. That would be very unfortunate.

Obviously it was his idea. My point is that the ultimate decision on what to name any channel resides with SiriusXM executives, not the on-air talent.
I'm sure SiriusXM acceded to renaming it OpieRadio because it's an empty gesture; a trade-off for something that might have proved more substantial (like a larger pay increase). It costs the company nothing while it does wonders for Opie's ego, which plainly is all that dummy cares about at this point.
6 phlammo 2014-10-23
Wow - you're dumb. "Management" just happened to name the channel the same thing he'd personally branded himself across social media? If anything - they'd need to get his permission to use that brand.
3 ricardo_von_nicht 2014-10-23
go fuck yourself. you spread your dumbass comments in multiple threads the last few days, and i let it pass. eat proper shit.
if u honestly believe that opie had no input with sch things as the name et al then just put ur head back in the sand u apologist
2 snoopkhat 2014-10-23
ME: what do you like about the show?
gsbird1065: ummm, it's not as shit as i thought it would, ummm be.
2 gsbird1065 2014-10-23
No. It is.
I just wasn't expecting anything more than what we're getting, so I'm not disappointed.
1 gsbird1065 2014-10-23
I didn't say he had no input; I'm saying the final decision is not his.
He can't make the company change the show's, or the channel's, name to anything. The company, on the other hand, could change both to whatever they liked and Opie would have to live with it for as long as his contract runs (unless he decided to walk).
Do you see the distinction?
He's just on-air talent. He is not management.
