Ironically, he probably re-signed so he'd be guaranteed to keep having money for whores. And he only needs to pay for whores because he's a spineless worm. If he had the balls to go where the funny is, he probably would have had an easier time attracting women, as well.

Opie's hypocrisy was always obvious to me, and completely expected, but nobody should sugarcoat or defend what Jimmy did. He willingly chose to re-sign with the Jan Terri of comedy.

True, people need to stop giving him a pass on this. He's a fucking comedian who complains constantly about his career going nowhere and yet he happily signs a one-year contract to what he well knows is a comedic vacuum.

Has he not noticed by now that a safe radio show, while keeping him relatively comfortable compared to some of his peers, has ultimately destroyed his chances of having a great career? This would have been the perfect time to leave, he could have saved some cash from the YEARS he worked the easiest job in comedy to put into a new project instead of spending it on the same 3 whores. He could have gone to Europe ONCE, just once, to see if it really is the hell on earth he's so sure it is (hint: it isn't)

Basically anything to ensure that he stops living pretty much the exact same life he's been living for the past 15 years. That's why his stand-up stinks and that's why his stories now stink is because he does nothing. The only new stories we get from Jimmy are about how he acted embarrassingly unprofessional in front of a celebrity so he could get their fucking picture. Great stand-up comes from real experiences, Jimmy is petrified of moving outside of the bubble of mediocrity he's made for himself. The motherfucker thought the Vice show was a departure but lets be honest, it's the exact same self-deprecating, shifty demeanor serious host Jimmy interviewing people we've heard him interview before. Interviewing is also not one of his strong points.

This is a great explanation of why Jimmy has stalled. Also, with the picture and starfucking thing, I think this is why he'll always be viewed as an outsider. He still behaves like a creepy teenage fan. People said he needed to break his "radio guy" persona but I think he needs to break his "sidekick" persona. He's always the little helper. It was a funny thing to do on Tough Crowd and OandA but now it's sad. Every so often he has flashes of brilliance but it's only concerning 2 topics: whores and political correctness.

That's always what's bothered me about Jim, its like what the fuck does he do in his free time? He's never savvy to current TV shows, doesn't watch sports other than being a casual UFC fan, doesn't seem to watch many movies since all his references are 20+ years old, his music taste is ancient and it stinks, he doesn't travel anywhere for a vacation or an experience.. hes admitted even when he travels for comedy he just goes and hides in his hotel, doesn't bother to see the city at all, other than maybe a rub and tug.. I still think he has his funny moments, but its annoying how bland of a person he really is..

I remember listening to a show where they had a bunch of comedians on, it might have been one of the old Montreal shows, and someone was saying how Eddie Murphy was a great stand-up but an arrogant dullard offstage.

It's always strange to see when comedians don't live up to their material, and I think that Jim is so good at being a third mic (and I mean that sincerely) that he's been able to be funny for years despite actually not having much going on. Some people just have that ability.

The same is not the case for his stand-up, which desperately needs a breath of fresh air.

We all know what he does in his free time.

Let me explain this to you. You know the jocks they make fun of in October? He's one of them. He's a company man all the way and he rode the wave with Ant (a really funny guy who was some sort of metal bender professionally - not a jackass who professionally decided this was awesome). This is what he esteemed to be - hence, his major, his role in college radio, his role in radio immediately afterwards. Don't let him kid you. If he wasn't signed, he'd be, "Hey! This is Greg in the morning on 92.3 FM - Home of Classic Rrrrroooock! Here's an oldie but a goodie! Ironically, 92.3 is the station they Jocktobered where I live. I was friends with one of the two main jocks on facebook, and when I mentioned one day their overuse of prepburger, he just laughed and was like "I know, right?" basically, just a dude doing a job working with what he's got. This, in contrast to Opie, who starts screaming about haters if someone makes an even halfway valid comment.

In the early XM days Opie would rant about Stern frequently and for a huge portion of shows. Ant and Jim would try to steer the topic away but he always came right back to it like they didn't say anything, but it was always very clear they wanted the subject to be on something else.

Have you ever bitched about something to a friend purely for catharsis, but then reigned it in because you realize it's only self-serving? All of his rants are like that - whether it's Stern, management, the producers, whatever - only he's speaking professionally, to huge audience, and he doesn't reign it in ever.

Anyway, back to my point. If Ant would ever chime in and do his Stern voice or somehow contribute something to Opie's rants, Opie would fake laugh for an unbearable amount of time. Not just throwing out a forced chuckle, but actually filling airwaves by faking hysterics about Ant's slightly funny lines. It's maybe the most insecure thing I've ever heard. Just trying to make the point that "see, we're better than stern because look at how hilarious this is when I rant about him for an hour! And Anthony's totally on the same page!".

I hate when he sings obnoxiously. What's the fucking point of that? To prove his alpha status?

He fake laughs at all his own "jokes" or witty toss-in's too, because no one else is and they're almost always terrible. Lousy comics do this when they have a bad set, too. Instead of just letting that stinker go, they nervously laugh after it to try and pad it. It's gross.

I've pointed this out for some time now. What makes it even worse is that he purposely tries to make it more gravelly and manly to suppress his inner faggot Spuds Buckley.

I generally like Opie, but the worst thing about him is definitely talking out of his ass when he knows he has no idea what he's talking about. Sometimes it's him trying to troll in a funny way, but he's not capable of pulling it off. Other times he just wants to make an argument for the sake of the microphone.
