DOpie is so devoid of a comedic sense that real guest comedians have a difficult time understanding that the statement he just made is in fact an attempt at making a joke.
I was listening to the episode with Florentine and they were talking about Florentine almost stepping in his gf shit pile behind some tree. After some laughs, Mr. Hughes says "you always gotta check out your gf's shit." Jim and Florentine both go, "huh, why?" And former model Hughes then has to admit it was just a joke.
That shit happens frequently and it makes my listening day complete.

Opie isn't funny himself and he has trouble understanding if things are funny. Its downright autistic. Like when he says, "Good line, good line" or "heh, funny" when everybody else in the room is laughing. Opie isn't laughing, but he can see 5 people laughing in the room so it is like he has to justify his understanding of comedy.
His Twitter is all you need to know. He's like an alien tourist trying out one liners for the first time and failing. He's done 19,000 tweets. Show me NINE funny ones. You can't do it.

i remember one time a caller said he saw opie at a dane cook special tapping and opie didnt laugh once, and asked if opie dont like dane cook. opie got very defensive and start yelling shit like i heard comedy in a daily basis i am immure to it. i wonder if that means opie dont understand any of the jokes or dane cook just stinks

Or when Jim was telling his finding roaches on his plate story, and Gregshells interrupted him to say "Sam is it back to ME?" Because he wouldn't be bothered with finding a roach or long hair in his food.

During a bit, 85 percent of what Opie says is something he reads on twitter, and he usually is the only one who laughs at it. He always thinks what he reads is going to be the biggest laugh but it just ruins the flow.

Especially when he'd read Instant Feedback. Or he'd get a caller that he thought had a good line or story. Opie would explain the line or story while the caller was trying to speak and then Opie would act like HE was the one being interrupted. To top it all off, the line would be a bomb or the story would suck anyways so what was the point? He "steered the ship" into so many caller icebergs.

His Twitter account is riddled with these. At first you just think they are atrociously worded jokes but then you don't even know if he was attempting to be funny or not. Like that Monica Lewinsky joke he said. It was either mocking Obama voters, saying Monica Lewinsky fucked 75 percent of the people who voted for Barack Obama, Monica Lewinsky liked to fuck black people or it could just be a banal statement of fact.
This is a prime "Is that even a joke?" tweet from Opie...

Perfect example. His joke batting average is so low, people have no idea when he's throwing out lines. The listeners default position is always "let me try to figure out the factual statement Mr. Hughes just finished spewing."
I tried understanding his tweet from a trying to be funny prospective and it's impossible. Even as a factual statement, it makes no sense. Should there be a comma in there somewhere? What a fucking dOpe.

Is it supposed to be funny? I thought it was about as funny as a Church Activity News Bulletin. I Just thought it's weird, that it's put out new everyday.

The line is actually quite good. The implication that stepping on your girlfriend's shit is a common occurrence, so much so that you must always watch out for it. I liked it :)

I'm going to answer your post as if you're being honest. With that being said, you have as much comedic sense as your hero. The joke he attempted wasn't about watching out for your gf's shit, but that you must inspect and check out your gf's shit. That checking out and examining her shit is a prerequisite for a successful relationship.
It was a terrible nonsensical joke. His joke equation is [body fluids] + [other person] = [funny]. It's like when he tells the story about shitting on the beach (lie) or when he kicked a shit nugget off his foot that rolled down his leg (another lie). He thinks there funny because it fits in his equation, but he doesn't get that it just makes him look like a dirty man with no sense of humor.

Opie's lines are actually kinda funny sometimes but he has NO delivery. Everything's in his normal radio voice or his normal radio voice while pretending to mumble.
Anthony, Jimmy, Ronnie B, Fez...basically everybody on the channel know when to drop their voice or say something in a different cadence or to let a line go underneath a conversation. Opie doesn't and it makes everything he says fall flat.
That said, all the Opie hate is lame as fuck.
