Which years of O&A are worth skipping?

I started listening to the show a year before Anthony got fired and I recently downloaded every year of the show and I recently finished 2004 which was just ok in my opinion. Was just wondering which years are worth skipping.

2014 to the foreseeable future.

depends on what you prefer, i did the same thing awhile back but started as far back as WAAF days.

05 to 07 was the douchiest time for OnA in my opinion, norton was forcing angry rants every day and would always be screaming and it was never funny or edgy, ant was fine, opie was annoying but at least he had energy. plus every show was showing how crazy XM was by having a stupid "hott" girl in to shove a wiffle ball bat up her gash, was interesting the first time you heard it but they did it everyday, oh and the lame lesbian couch, hott girls on the radio is worse than anything.

08-patrice death were the golden years, cellar comics in a bunch, jimmy started to be silly and loveable, ant for the first time in my opinion was actually funny, he was always kinda funny but he kind of leaned on his impressions but around this time he stepped it up, and well opie was opie.

i dont think anyone at the time realized how special those years were, nobody could have guessed that two of the biggest comics in the world right now were two of the more frequent guests on OnA (burr & louie) and if patrice was still here same would go for him, thats like pryor, carlin, and another legend doing radio all the time before they blew up.

I know you mentioned the Cellar comics but it needs to be pointed out that this was the golden era of Colin Quinn, too. I realized the other day that all my favorite episodes - Louis bashing Gap, the Norton Roast, "Rich Vos Live at Hiroshima," everything with Patrice including his fucking prison story - was from that era.

yeah i include colin in the cellar comics, whenever i think of cellar comics colin is the first one i think of.

and yes norton roast is by far the best OnA show of all time, ive listened to that at least 40 times, some of the best lines ever are from that show.

I started in 08. That must be why to me the show was never weak

I think '07 should be included in tge golden years

2003

2014.

Honestly, I can't say I'd skip entire periods aside from the O&J era. There are some long parts of shows where it was nothing but gun talk / or political jibber jabber, but during the stint on satellite I can't think of a period to write off. When you hit 2010 there's actually a good chunk of time where Opie was fun to listen to and an actual asset with a mic.

skip any freefm show. That was the worst. I remember the XM 2 hours still being decent but that FREE-FM show was bullshit.

I remember when they announced that show and how they sold it. It was so full of lies. They said they would get better guests. They didn't really. They said they would get better callers because it was free. They didn't. They said they would provide original content during the extra long commercial breaks. They didn't. They played horribley edited "worst of" clips.

Then, after the "homeless charlie" incident when they were still on FreeFM they were so scared to say anything slightly edgy. It became an Entertainment News/Youtube video review show. It was terrible. I was dancing in the street when they got cancelled there.

Also, I remember when Howard moved to satellite and Opie would say "Howard is a hack who couldnt adapt". Opie still hasn't apologized to Howard for that one.

Anything before late 1999, 2004, 2013, 2014.

2005 is optional. It's slow-paced and a lot weirder than other years. There are a lot of inside jokes and show references that were created during this period. There's a lot of caller and fan interaction with the show. Some people like the 2005-2006 years the best, other's don't like that period at all.

I stared listening around 09. Where can I get episodes all the way back from 04? (besides youtube)

Pirate Bay

Its important to note that a lot of their material has dated considerably. Comedy, especially talk radio does kinda have a time stamp on how long its funny. Shows from like 2005 sound way different now than they did then...in a completely different context. Its really hard to go back to like censored radio once uve heard podcasting and satellite radio. Even early satellite radio kinda sounds douchey now that were all used to uncensored content. All that shock jocky stuff is so douchey now. A bunch of grown adults surprised and shocked that they can say the f word...sounds very odd in 2014 if u havent heard it in its original context.

As an old-time listener from the WAAF days, there is something to be said for the campiness of their early hack stuff. It's like hearing a time capsule of what radio was like in the 1990s.
