Jimmy Norton Deserves More Criticism

2  2014-10-21 by [deleted]

Jimmy should have left the show. If he's actually interested in putting out a quality comedic product, how can he remain on O&J?

I'm tired of people saying that "anyone would have taken the paycheck." Jimmy's a middle-aged man with no wife, no kids, a decent amount of assets, and multiple sources of income. Why is he always so concerned about money?

2 years ago, I worked a 6-figure job that I hated to pursue an art career. I make 1/3rd of what I used to, but I'm way happier and have no regrets. If I had a wife + kids, obviously it'd be different.

Unlike Patrice or Colin or Burr, Jimmy's always been more interested in fame and celebrity than being a great comedian, and that perspective is why he'll never be a great stand-up.

You act like he owes us, and you, something. He doesn't. If he wants to ferment his career then it's not my business.

But the next time he gets passive aggressive about his friends' success, without actually saying it, lol.

What this whole situation has shown me is just how full of shit everyone was all these years. Since I started listening they have been complaining about management, about being stuck in the mud, and the horrible PC culture we live in. They even talked about leaving Sirius to do a podcast because they were so sick of the company.

If Opie and Jimmy were the people they have been pretending to be all these years they wouldn't have re-signed. It's really as simple as that. Anthony's firing should have been the catalyst that made Opie and Jimmy finally say fuck you to Sirus. Instead, they were revealed for the cowards that they truly are.

Since Ant got fired I can't remember one time that Opie or Jimmy bashed the company. When was the last time the show went 3 months without multiple hour long breaks on how they are mistreated by management and how Sirius is holding them back? They themselves now know that nobody will ever buy their righteous indignation ever again. Shit, Opie even happily boasted that the "company really likes the show." He went from pretending to be a rebel that didn't play by the rules MAHN to the company man that he is today.

So to directly respond to your main point, no, Jimmy doesn't owe us anything, but that doesn't mean we can't criticize him. Ever since the merger he has been a yapping dog, complaining about anything and everything. But when it was time to put up or shut up he tucked his tail between his legs and doesn't even make a peep anymore.

"They" = Opie. Ant just did the amount of nodding required to avoid an argument. Jim was always happy to be there.

I don't disagree with you. I would say it's akin to pro wrestling where we, the audience, are expected to know it's a work. But Jim, out of all of them, Jim's insistence on honesty kinda casts a shade on this line of thought.

They don't wanna rock the boat. It's obvious. Opie has always been a rat but now he's a rat without a hole. Without a brand. Honestly, all he has to offer, is his job, and that building. I'm sure it's been screamed on this sub by people even fatter than me, if Opie was doing a show from his house, NOBODY would subscribe. He's never brought anything to the table other than clinging to it like a fat titted barnacle.

And sure, criticize him all you want. I haven't really defended the O&J show or listened past the first 2 weeks. I cancelled my sub July 4th, and I haven't downloaded THAT show illegally since that first 2 weeks. They are a gelding radio show without Ant.

You know exactly why they don't do Jocktober now. Because more and more, they will become like those radio shows. O&A wasn't perfect, and everyone on that show gave the others fake laughs every fucking day, but they had to. 4 hours a fucking day. I understand that. But beyond the racist rants, the random anger from a bald headed childman, beyond the hapless horseshit from a strawheaded babyboy who lucked out without being remotely entertaining, it was a show that prided itself above all else...

Real

And now it's just a cuckholded also-ran men's talk show with the corpse of a shock jock OCD mama's boy and a comedian who will never reach his peer's success because he can't get over how shitty he is. I'm rambling and I haven't slept and the sun's probably up. Whatever.

Jimmy talked about podcasting way more than Opie ever did. Opie would be in the middle of a long rant that had no reason to it and Jimmy would always be the one that brought up podcasting as the only solution. He sounded sincere and adamant about it, but in retrospect we now know that it was bullshit. In fact the only person I don't remember being in favor of a podcast was Ant lol

You're under the gross misconception that Jimmy is or has even been an edgy comedian. His stance against the "Soviet Union" in 2010, Libertarians, and internet anonymity should've let you know what he is.

I think Jimmy's shtick is anti edgy, every time something slightly edgy come up he will take the other side, like the conspiracy theories 911 shit and AA

when they were talking golden radio voice guy jim said he was temporarily rich, nobody laughed or chimed in because they either didn't get the reference or are terrified to turn it over like ant did. i think that sums it up, either slow on the uptake or terrified, so he plays to their level.

The thing is Jimmy really doesn't have anything else. He has a stand up career but that's never going to get any bigger than it already is, and he's never going to get any better because he purposefully holds himself back. He is so afraid of ripping someone off that he won't watch other comedians and try to learn from them. He watched a Richard Pryor special and a George Carlin special back in the 1980s and that was the last time he watched another comedian.

He refuses to travel to Europe and do standup there for absolutely idiotic reasons. Just listen to Burr trying to get Jimmy to give it a shot. His logic is beyond retarded and that's why after 20+ years of comedy he still only plays 100 person rooms. He is afraid of risks and he only goes for the safe option which happens to be doing the radio show.

I think Jimmy deserves more criticism on a lot of things, but this really isn't one of them

A large part of Jimmy's audience are O&A fans, whether they listen to Sirius or TACS. Jimmy would probably have preferred working with Ant, but it wouldn't have worked. Drive to Long Island everyday? Take a pay-cut? If he went with Ant, it would have looked like a public siding with Ant (rather than being the neutral guy in-between as he always has been)

Honestly, if Jimmy left SiriusXM, Opie and the rest of the staff would have been fucked. I'm sure Opie had that conversation about how he couldn't carry the show on his own.

Jim likes doing the show in that studio with that staff, getting to hang out with big guests, and getting paid large amounts of money to bullshit a few hours a day.

Sometimes when I jerk off I think about my mom right before ejaculating.

how can he remain on O&J?

Because he's confident in what he does. Both he and Opie just figured they'd keep kicking ass without Ant which is what anyone should think in that situation. I love Ant but he's not god. You can do a funny show without him. Unfortunately, they're just not putting out a great product right now and that's all on them.

Jimmy's the only entertainer that risks alienating himself in the face of these celebrities to entertain us with inside jokes that only his fans understand. Jimmy should do whatever it takes to be successful, even if that means leaving us behind.
