This isn't about who should be in radio. This is about who shouldn't. I never played baseball at a professional level but I can go to a baseball game and indentify a shitty player and know he wouldn't make it in the majors. I never performed stand up comedy but I can go to a comedy act and identify a shitty comedian and realize "wow this guy isn't funny and needs to improve or quit." I've never been a professional accountant but If I take my taxes to a pro and every year he fucks them up and I get audited I know "wow, this guy is a terrible accountant. Even though he's been doing this for 20 years, he stinks." Did ya see what I'm getting at here? You don't need to have personal experience on radio to understand when you are listening to shit.

Who here purported to be a radio expert? Have you ever been able to criticize something without an advanced degree in it, or professional experience? Ever say you didn't like the way your mommy made scrambled eggs despite no graduation from Le Cordon Bleu?

It's the usual Argumentum ad verecundiam - they are used to make those who lack authority feel shame about discussing issues they lack credentials of expertise in, and back out of an argument. It's the bastion of the weak minded and less intelligent person, and the coward. It's along the lines of "attack the messenger", which is a cowardly way to avoid the message.

Radio broadcaster here. Not been doing it for nearly as long, but I do work in Miami, one of the biggest markets in the US. That said, Opie sucks. A lot of the criticism here sucks, but plenty is valid.
