I think what he is really trying to do (and not particularly succeeding) is to rebrand the new show. Part of that is getting rid of anything that was an obvious signature of the O&A brand.
The issue is that he's not replacing it with something worth subscribing for.
The best part of Jocktober was them describing things posted to the Facebook page. Second best part was the humor. Subtract those two things and you're just listening to shitty radio make fun of other shitty radio.
By "wouldn't be the same without Ant" he doesn't mean I'm not nearly as talented as Ant, and trying to do Jocktober would be disrespectful to all the long time fans but actually what he means is I'm a different kind of funny than Ant, more high brow with the homer simpson sound clips and shit moustaches. Long time fans are all morons with their Godfather and Kubrick references so fuck them and fuck Jocktober

I don't think so. There were plenty of times that comedians were brought in on Jocktober and various other bits. He could just as easily have Jocktobers with Norton and any of the following: Vos, Bawby, Colin, Florentine etc.
Opie is slowly retooling the show, for the worse. He had two serious breaks this week about bowel movements. I'm not joking.
Meanwhile, this week on Long Island, Anthony had one of the funniest shows he's ever done. He was flying solo and had a 10 minute riff on the Oklahoma beheading that was hilarious.
Whatever Opie is doing, it is not making the show funny. Occasionally, Jimmy will be given room to operate with a Soder or another comic and its great. But, those events are few and far between.
Plus, come on, you know that this entire sub would be up in arms if he tried to plug some other comedian into Ant's place for Jocktober. Jocktober is truly a signature O&A bit that worked with both Opie and Anthony because they are Opie and Anthony. Just plugging someone into Ant's place for those bits that are O&A staples will simply not work, no matter how much you want to stomp your feet and insist that it will.
