The show that everyone thought would end with a bang, is going out with a whimper...

...even as I type this. So sad. I'll always consider myself an Opie and Anthony fan, which officially ended the day Anthony got fired. Unfortunately there is 1/2 a monstrosity that is attempting to perform a radio show like nothing happened. Even listening to the very first show back was obvious this was a different show. I haven't listened for weeks.
I refuse to submit to the Opie-hating simply because he was a large part of a radio show that I adored so much. Whether he was bad or not doesn't matter, simply existing as the second half of the OnA show makes me adore him. Plus, even listening to his cringe educing commentary was just that, cringe educing, something that was pretty much as important as humor on the show (at least for me). The balance of cringyness to humor is off on the Opie Show. The OnA show had a perfect balance IMO.
I started out listening to OnA at pretty much a suicidal point in my life and they served as a great distraction from fucked up thoughts. I became more of a cynical asshole to people, but I think my humor has definitely improved because of it. Anthony and Jimmy are fucking funny dudes. Plus the show turned me onto the concept of listening entertainment - before it, listening to a comedy or educational podcast would sound weird, now I do every day. Just put in my headphones and do something productive while being immensely entertained.
It'll be a sad day when I hear on the news in a few decades that any of the guys have died. I'd still freak out inside seeing or meeting one of them. As a listener, your moms box.

I wish there was a way to hang up on reddit posts.

I hate to be serious, but I'm with you. In some of my loneliest and darkest times, I felt like o and a helped me to not feel lonely. You almost felt like you were in a room full of people talking. I think I owe my sanity to them

Yeah. I know its extremely douchey, but i feel the same way. I was going through a very bad time when i first started listening and the show really worked like an antidepressant for me.

Me, too. I was suicidal so often, but damn the show made me laugh.

i'll agree as well gentlemen, the show definitely help distract from some seriously depressing times, once it became opie and jimmy, the amount of distraction seriously dropped, only thing i can still chuckle at is jimmy, gregg hughes is no anthony cumia

One time I was driving at like 1am on the freeway, I got really sick and pulled over and was losing consciousness, I went to dial 911 but I dropped my phone. I passed out for a minute or two, and when I was coming to I knew I was still alive because I could hear stupid O&A's voices. I was like "I'd like to die while listening to the show." (I don't know wtf happened, but the next 24 hours was one of the sickest I've ever been. Then it just went away, it was insane.)

It sounds like you found O&A during a really difficult time in your life. Good for you for having the class not to slam Opie.

Personally I'm a little happy I don't have to keep up with the show daily to see if it's improved. There are a lot of podcasts out there that are just interesting and due to their weekly schedule I can have a good cycle of them while still listneing to others.
Race wars is a great podcast, the dynamic and conversations on race, gender, etc is much more interesting than what I heard on O&A mainly because of the diverse and open hosts.

Also, Legion of Skanks with Big Jay Oakerson, Dave Smith, and Luis J. Gomez is great.

You sound like you're a little too obsessed with death. Lighten up, it's just radio.
