Taking a strictly on-balance view on what has transpired the last few months, things worked out extremely well for each of the former team.

Once Anthony got fired, everything could have collapsed individually for them. The show could have been completely canceled, and 3 middle aged men could have been left scrambling to find work at a time neither expected or planned for. .

This way, we have Anthony who has a successful show, doing what he likes, under his own direction, and making more money than before. He pulled this off without severely impacting the earning potential of his former partners or losing credibility among the supporter base. It is clear that whatever subscribers SXM lost was offset by the loss of having to pay Anthony's salary. But it was enough that Anthony can sufficiently monetize his new project. It wasn't a zero sum game, there were other scenarios like non SXM subs-subbing to TACS etc.

Basically there are 2 shows now, for the same value (money wise for them). Opie can now feel free to take the direction of his choosing, and Anthony can do the same. They can share guests (Jim, Vos, Colin etc) but dont have to do it under the same umbrella.

I would be extremely surprised if the OandJ show budget has not been increased for this contract due to the savings off of Anthonys salary. This leaves Opie and Jim some leeway to use their brains and come up with a show that is not a heaping pile of shit like it has been (assuming they are going after the same market).

And lets face it, we all know that before everything happened the show was stagnant.

Opie will be on TACS as a guest soon (verified). Jim will continue going on TACS (verified), and there is a possibility that Anthony will go on the SXM show as a guest (unverified-says is open to it).

In the future we could see reunion episodes, events, and they now have some breathing space time wise to work out if they want to join forces in the future after the end of the contract if they want to, or continue on different paths.

TL;DR: It probably worked out the best way possible.

Opie doesn't have the balls to Go on Ants show anytime soon. Unless Opie makes Ant promise not to take any live calls, because we all know how that would turn out.

The quote was he is going on "soon". Anthony said many times he will have Opie on. He explained yesterday why Opie has not been on already-negotiation reasons. I dont know man, I think you are taking whats posted on this sub too seriously. Im a "Anthony loving, Opie ~~hating fanatic~~ dismissive person" but its one thing to vent frustration on the internet, and another when being in a real world scenario of calling in. I always said, ill give the guy another chance if he humbles himself, and works on his shit. I suspect many people would agree with that.

I disagree. If Anthony fans care about Anthony they'll lay off Opie for that show. Anthony won't allow it and will start hanging up on people. Ant and Opie may not be close anymore but there's a deep underlying respect there. Opie changed Anthonys life and Anthony changed opies life. All for the better. The haters won't even get through.

Also I think most people will be interested to see how there first on air interaction goes since everything happened. Plus let's face it when Opie is just laid back he's so much better. Whenever he goes on other shows or podcasts he's a completely different guy and I just think people want to see the gang together despite all the hate.

Do you REALLY think they count the subs to the show, and apply the money towards it? You don't tell Sirius who you listen to, and they pay that channel, you buy a sub, and it's all pooled money for ALL of the channels. The only person who isn't part of that is Howard. If 10,000 people canceled their subs because of Ant's firing, it has NOTHING to do with the money the channel gets.

You're making the mistake of assuming the number of people listening is directly correlated with their salaries at Sirius. Stern had somewhere between 2 to 4 times the listeners but made 20 to 100 times more money than O&A combined. It's about perceived value and leverage with corporations. On the other hand, Anthony is now one of the few people in America that knows EXACTLY what he's worth to his audience.

As far as I know, they only released the Arbitron ratings for satellite radio in 2007 and haven't since. In the Spring ratings Howard 100 had 1,225,000 listeners a week, The Virus had 216,800. In the Fall ratings Howard had 1,210,000, The Virus had 171,300. Based on that, at least in 2007 Stern had more like 5 to 7 times more listeners on satellite, but we have no way of knowing how much those numbers have changed in 7 years.

They could easily have given ESD or Dr. Steve more than $100 dollars a week, but they refuse to. SXM is killing off all talk that isn't howard. Ron might skate because of his other contributions but I doubt there will be any kind of re-tooling for O&J, just more of the same.

To be fair here, you either have an inside scoop on show info or you're doing a little speculating yourself. Maybe I missed an Opie show announcement and in which case I'm mistaken, but the little bit that has been said publicly isn't enough to verify that it is happening. I mean, Ant also said he'd get together with Derosa soon to "continue this discussion". (Although he did clarify that a bit yesterday)

The company is willing to re-sign the show, but that means little if they provide them very little resources and virtually no publicity or opportunities to travel or get new fans. They tuck them away in the corner behind Stern for posterity,

What is Ant going to say when he's asked on air? Of course he is leaving the door open and Opie has expressed some mutual interest, but that's not really a show announcement yet.

The tough thing is that when he does come on, it won't be the tell-all radio we want to hear so badly, but it'd still be nice to see them together again.
