They seem to be laughing to me. Jim even comments how it's funny how Opie gave the lawyer an answer the lawyer wasn't expecting. So...maybe since you are so biased towards Opie's genius, you are just hearing what you want to hear.
They give him pity laughs, compare how they react to this to their usual energy, there's large areas of nothing from Jim & Ant. I thought this was a sarcastic post by the way, that's incredible that you think this was Opie being ballsy, that is bias.
The only things that make me fast forward the show, is obviously made up or embellished Opie stories, Trayvon stuff, and Jim getting mad that some people enjoy fishing.
