Opie on Anchorman 2 & Will Ferrell

1  2014-09-14 by [deleted]

In this clip Opie claims that Will Ferrell is over-exposed (once Ant makes it clear that's what he thinks) and then says that he already told Ant he is over-exposed(even though he just asked if he was), and it's because they want to get everyone into the theatre on the opening weekend. "They knew the movie wasn't gonna do that well. It didn't do well, right?"

Sam provides clear evidence he's wrong, and Jim points out that it's a hit but instead of admitting he was wrong, Opie keeps saying it didn't really do well. Ant buckles and says "We don't know shit then" but Opie just changes the conversation to something else, after ignoring Jim's Average Joe character.

I have no idea why he thought Anchorman 2 wouldn't do well, but regardless it's fucking annoying to hear him stubbornly pretend it didn't, even when he's been corrected. If he showed some humility like Ant did here he wouldn't be so hate-able.

Diggin' deep!

It didn't do nearly as good as the first with audiences and critics alike and the advertising push for it was tremendous. So Opie isn't entirely wrong. However, it had a 50 million dollar budget and made about 170 million. So after the deals with distributors and movie theaters and the big advertising push, they didn't make too much money off of it. That being said, it didn't lose money, it wasn't a "bomb" so much as it just was a comedic and financial underperformer.

Opie wasn't talking about the film being bad or good, he was talking about how much money it'd make when he said it didn't do well. It was a hit as Jim & Sam pointed out.

Besides, it has 75% from Critics and 55% from the audience and is rated fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, that's not great but definitely passable.

this cant be, opie is wrong about everything that exists

I can't even fault him for thinking an advertising push that sustained and prevalent (they flogged it in car commercials and during sporting events relentlessly for about 2 months) was some desperate bailout attempt on a movie that was financially bombing.

The thing is, a comedy can perform poorly, even lose money, but they very rarely have high budgets. This one for instance didn't even cost 60 million dollars. It wasn't this 200 million dollar special effects laden extravaganza that a company could legitimately lose its ass on like The Lone Ranger or 47 Ronin.

2013 and 2014 were financial catastrophes for some studios. They had bombs out the ass. It had some people in the industry as big as Spielberg question the "Big Budget Film" formula.

I hate to side with Opie, but it was Trying Too Hard: The Movie

Just like this is Trying Too Hard To Shit On Opie: The Thread. You can listen to any show in the past 5 years and find something just as cunty he said basically.

Agreed, this isn't a one off, I'm just pointing out one clear instance of Opie's stubbornness, don't see how that's trying too hard.

Nah I was just being a prickkkkkkkkk. I just see a lot of people splitting hairs and easter egg hunting new and exciting things to shit on Opie for, it's kinda old.

You slammin' Buds tonight, PAM? Start the clip HERE!

I just wanted the part where Opie refuses to admit he was wrong.

I want a video of your inception starring your fathers cock deep inside your mothers asshole, but heywhacanyado..

Enough karma whoring you cunt.

I would be annoyed at how dumb this comment was if you hadn't made it crystal clear you were a troll.

Nothing infuriates me more than when he talks about movies. His inputs and opinions are so fucking juvenile and based on flights of fancy. It makes my blood boil. (As a movie nerd) That time they had Owen Roizman on, I just wanted to cry, the 5th grade student questions they were asking him. I work with his son, and he was just like "Who are those guys."

Is that any different from music, TV, or really anyone else they have in? Unless Jim is specifically a fanboy of the show, both Opie and Jim sound like they are in some sort of culture vacuum.

Well I said "as a movie nerd," it's a particular sore spot for me. I know they're dum dums in general, but that one specifically really 'gets my goat.' (What does that mean, anyway)

I'm a movie nerd too, but also music, good TV, etc. Almost every discussion they have is painful.

Get your goat is an expression that came from people stealing racehorse companion goats, which agitated the horse for the race.

God damn you.

Goat damn you, as well sir

Im gonna find your goat. And fuck it, until it can't walk.

What you do in the privacy of your own stable is your business, Mr. Hands.

Fuckin prude.

Why the fuck did they have Roizman on?

It was some new Anniversary re-release.

I tried to watch anchorman 2 on demand and got a little over an hour into it. It was much better than I expected. Not as funny on first viewing as the original Anchorman or Old School but a funny film regardless. I had to piss or smoke a cigarette and paused the movie and saw i still had 1 hour and 20 minutes left in the film.

I turned the movie off right there because I got everything I was going to get from the film in my hour of viewing. I know this criticism is "old hat" at this point but I don't understand how Appatow and Ferrell can agree on 2 and one half hours being the ideal running time on the Anchorman sequel. All his movies are way too long.

You should give This is 40 a shot, then. A one note bore of a movie that gets up to 133 minutes.

What happened to a nice 90 minute movie? Why would somebody want to watch 45 minutes of B roll, montages and filler jokes?

I love Apatow to pieces, love all of his movies but This Is 40 was so atrocious I walked about about 35 mins in, I couldn't take another second of it. Good lord.

I've seen the first half in hotels a couple of times and couldn't even make it through watching it for free. It stinks.

You can blame Judd Apatow for that shit. Oh yeah he's a genius alright. I'd even say Adam Sandler is a little to blame. He started getting into the long drawn out comedies too and abandoned the formula he had for his greatest films like happy Gilmore.

You can pick apart anyone as an asshole from 20 years of radio, come on

I was out a red box a while back with my brother to look for a movie to watch. We were communicating aloud when my brother mentioned renting anchorman 2. I kid you not 2 seconds later a guy walks by and says it's the worst movie he ever saw. We didn't rent it. Truth is yes anchorman made money but significantly less than the studio probably expected especially with such a big push for the film. In reality Opie wasn't the far off. Quit reaching for shit. Dare I pull up a clip of misinformed Jimmy... Because there's many.

Go on then? I don't know what kind of response you're hoping for from me, would love to hear more about you and your brother's escapades though.

That the movie sucked you dumb fuck. I understand your pissed. Rightfully so. You started this thread thinking it's going to shoot to the top... And I'll have plenty of karma. Man the hive mentality is going to love this one. Then you make the post and most people generally agree with Opie about the film. You're fucking reaching at this point. Go listen to some more old clips and go a frustrate yourself a little more, then come back and try again. Maybe your next thread will go better.

You're the only one that seems angry here, perhaps write some more comments if you want to get your frustration out?

Hahahahahaha good one man. Way to comeback at me and really pile on. I'm not the pathetic slob living down the hall in my mom's house and critiquing and stalking a 50-something year old radio dj online. Go find more clips of a show and piss yourself off. I think Jimmy called you people pathetic too the other day. He was just a little more wordy.

Go on.

Nah just waiting on you. I'm sure you have another brilliant fucking thread on the way. You're not even one of the funny Opie haters around here. You try to hard. My guess is you haven't been listening to the show very long because Opie and Anthony together are brilliant and I'm sure I can find one off clips of Anthony and Jimmy being misinformed. Ever hear Jimmy rant about social issues or foreign policy? He's a clueless fuck.

Go on.
