That's what it's devolved into now (actually, last I heard, it was much worse than your questions), but back in the day it was much, much more than that.

Back in the day you could tell the questions were coming from a genuine sense of curiosity. He was a maestro, and the "good cop/bad cop" thing he did with Billy was genius.

He also used to make a lot of shinola out of pure shit; he would regular conduct compelling interviews with C, D, and F-list "celebs".

These days, it's Stern-by-numbers, with the questions seemingly coming from some lackey/intern. And he's adopted this annoying attitude where he acts like he already knows the answers to the questions he asks, which is bizarre, because oftentimes it's clear he's reading questions for the first time.

And he's gotten gayer than gay over the last few years. It's all about the cock now.

He's not or ever been perfect by any stretch and the show has suffered since Anthony was let go but it is still better than the AGT commercial fest down the hall. I have listened to both since the Billy West years for Howard and the WJFK years for O and A and they both have had their good and bad years. When Howard went to Sirius and stopped doing bits he started to spiral down the toilet and AGT was the death blow. O and A only got better after the constant negative vibe subsided. By my reckoning Opie is still better than Howard.
