Why didn't Opie resign immediately after the firing?

So I was listening to a clip of Howard (hoo hoo) just to hear what he said about Ant's firing, and Howie actually said something that made sense. He said if Robin were fired, he would resign the next day. Now whether that is true or not, I don't know. Regardless, it does seem like the noble and right thing to do.
Am I missing something where Opie can't resign or something? If I were Opie, I would have quit immediately if they fired my co-host, rather than truck along without him.
The more I think about it, the more it seems that Opie is just an egotistical maniac who has little respect for the man that kept him afloat and relevant for 20 years.

His options were to ride this out for 3 more months and produce the worst radio of his 20 year career, or be sued for millions of dollars for breach of contract. I hate Opie, but literally everybody would do the same thing in his position. Even Ant said he would have stayed if the situation was reversed.

Exactly this. I can't imagine someone being dumb enough to STILL not understand the breach of contract thing.

I watched Private Parts and Robin got fired and he didn't quit. Pretty sure that's what happened in real life too.

Because his corporation (The Opie & Anthony Show) was under contract to SXM, and if he did so, he would have been in breach of contract, which most likely would have cost him millions of dollars.
