No matter where you stand on Ant/Derosa, can we all agree that Bob Levy is the worst?
35 2014-09-11 by wifflebb
Was this guy ever funny? He's always been terrible on the show, so I looked up his standup and it's also horrendous. He has a harder time 'crafting' tweets than Bobo. Yet he has this attitude that he's some godfather of comedy, I guess because he's been around for a long time? Can anyone explain how he has a career?

I really don't think you're going to get a debate on this one.
Reading between the lines - he's a good guy who was/is good to young comics. Norton has affection for him because Levy knew/was good to him when he was young and not established, so Jimmy (who's an incredibly loyal guy) pays him back now by trying to get him exposure.
Opie likes Levy because he's an ex-Stern guy who doesn't mince words about Stern.
Levy isn't particularly funny, but he's relatively entrepreneurial - he knows enough to establish a strong Twitter presence, associate himself with people that fans want to see (Bobo/Lady Di on O&A, Beetlejuice while he was on Stern).
10 MBartholomae1 2014-09-11
He was a lot better when he used to call in just occasionally and tell stories about the road with him, Norton, and Florentine
9 Bick_Bickerson 2014-09-11
Opie puts him on the air because he thinks it bothers Howard (I doubt he gives a shit).
13 BIGDENNIS10UK 2014-09-11
Doubt?
He 100% doesn't give a shit.
3 Bick_Bickerson 2014-09-11
Plus, where O&A dropped the ball - basically Levy existed on Stern to be treated like the Rich Vos of the Howard Stern, whereas O&A started letting him call in as a legit comic instead of fucking with him like they do with Vos.
2 aaron91325 2014-09-11
Buts. Buts him on air.
1 GrapeJedi 2014-09-11
You shut your damn mouth before I worsh it out with soap. Give it a good Worshing.
7 Gefl 2014-09-11
Eh he's had some funny moments but I really can't follow him outside the show. His attitude is very off-putting and a real fucking downer.
5 Houghton91 2014-09-11
Levy is a good dude. He made some good points about DeRosa last night, threw in a couple of good comebacks in his anger.
4 Lasagna_Hat 2014-09-11
"one more thing if im a ass kisser why was the nypd blue and fbi involved with me ..cause i dont take shit"
"u cant shine my shoes that will be in ur mouth.ok tough guy i will come to your show .pleanty seats"
Where are the good points and/or comebacks? I don't get it
-1 Houghton91 2014-09-11
He may not articulate it well in 140 characters but we know what he means. "See Ant, when you can't help fuckers anymore that's what happens. All the rats surface." Ant has a good audience but it's a closed, well sized, loyal audience. He's not going to push Joe out anymore, he can't help him. Kindler types can, so he shits on Ant and jumps ship. It's a good point, whether you hate Levy or not.
Bob said come and say it to my face. DeRosa tagged him with an okay line, that would mean having to sit through your act, bit forced but it works. Then Levy tagged him back with it's okay i'll come to yours plenty of seats. Which was decent. Nothing groundbreaking don't get excited.
3 Lasagna_Hat 2014-09-11
To say DeRosa's was forced, but Levy's was decent? That just shows which way you lean. I don't agree with DeRosa's comments, I think he was a douche. However, I won't let that influence the cringe-inducing Twitter of Rev. Bob Levy
Looking at them objectively, DeRosa threw a jab: licking Ant's ass because he has blue cheese in there (he's referencing an old Bob Levy bit where he would eat blue cheese out of some chicks ass on stage). He was addressing how Levy was sucking up to Ant through DeRosa's comments (I've seen other tweets where he sucks up to Brother Joe as well, it's disgusting)
"hey cunt say it to my face you fucking retarded looking rat"- Levy. That seems a little excessive to a jab. Pretty pathetic for a 60 year old man and not clever for a 30 year comic.
"I would, but that would mean coming to a show and sitting through your act."- Derosa. Certainly more comedic than the school yard insult "fucking retarded looking rat"
"u cant shine my shoes that will be in ur mouth.ok tough guy i will come to your show .pleanty seats"- Levy. Still threatening violence? Pretty sad, but the pleanty (how he spells it) of seats is a reaction to Joe's semi-comedic comeback.
"Bob, I'm not gonna fight you. You took shots at me, I took one back. Just deal with it."- DeRosa.
"one more thing if im a ass kisser why was the nypd blue and fbi involved with me ..cause i dont take shit"- Levy. I don't understand what NYPD and FBI have to do with him not taking shit. Is he just so bad ass that the Feds have to get involved?
DeRosa was in the wrong about Ant, but don't think Levy is being selfless. Bob Levy is sucking up to Ant because Stern and O&J won't give him anymore air-time. All day he goes back and forth with Brother Joe. like this "a real man stands his ground NO MATTER WHAT!" ugh
Don't think he's doing this for any other reason than to stand in Anthony Cumia's good graces. I see like 8 Tweets talking about how he is "so loyal, and he'll kill for his friends". He's loyal out of necessity. If one more bridge gets burned, he won't have anywhere to plug his club gigs
-3 Houghton91 2014-09-11
Holy fuck Captain serious there's no fucking way i'm reading that. I'll address the first sentence. Of course i lean towards Bob, that's obvious from the first five words. "Levy is a good dude".
DeRosa's was forced. Levy said say it to my face and DeRosa said that would mean he'd have to sit through his act. Why would it, cause they can only talk inside comedy clubs in which Bob Levy is the headlining comic. He added to the story to force a joke. It was a good line, but forced. Think with your head you silly sausage.
0 spinuch 2014-09-11
"Holy fuck captain serious there's no fucking way i'm reading that" You're a bob levy fan.
1 Houghton91 2014-09-11
Urgh, we've got somebody who jumps to conclusions. Let me guess, you hate Opie and criticise him a lot?
By the way anybody that takes a throw away comment and replies with several paragraphs can go fuck themselves. Especially at 2 in the morning.
4 [deleted] 2014-09-11
He was on an episode of my wife hates me and Rich & Bonnie were talking to him like he's this legendary name. He used to do shit on stage like eating cream out of a girl's ass just to get a reaction.
9 BIGDENNIS10UK 2014-09-11
When he used to open for Artie, Artie banned him from doing it, Bob protested that the audience liked it, Artie reckons "Stop doing it, it's like following a rape".
5 Dagidugidai 2014-09-11
it was blue cheese, but yeah
3 TossyMcSalad 2014-09-11
and to cum in his pants for free. smart man that levy.
1 veryrandomcomment 2014-09-11
sooo, how did she react?
4 guccimanelaflare 2014-09-11
I don't love him or hate him, but he seems like one of those comedian's comedian types. Although Colin is apparently considered one of those and I fucking love him.
1 FJaxJones 2014-09-11
I don't think Levy is a comedian's comedian. As others said, he's been good to other comics so they're good to him. But I have a hard time imagining any of them think he's funny.
3 BottleOfAon 2014-09-11
He's just a kind of depressing guy. He'd get along very well with brother Joe I think.
2 WilliamTellAll 2014-09-11
PLEASE
we refer to him as Needy Bob Levy here.

I just listened to a time on the show a couple of years ago where Florentine was in studio and Bob Levy called in to tell a story from a time he and Florentine were on the road together. The call ended with florentine and Opie saying Bob Levy is in the top 3 club comedians alive.
2 Lasagna_Hat 2014-09-11
Florentine only said that because Levy was the only guy willing to take hacks like him and Norton on the road with him...
Opie said it to agree with his hero, Florentine
2 kgt5003 2014-09-11
Oh believe me I don't think that Bob Levy has ever been funny. Even when he was a Stern regular and they used to call him the roast master he was terrible at that and that was supposed to be his specialty.
1 WiretapStudios 2014-09-11
His show on Sterns channel was unbearable to listen to. I don't doubt he was a good standup back in the day, but he seems to suffer from that thing Otto had, where their personal life and demons seem to keep their career in the same spot as 20 years ago, playing in hotels bars and the occasional larger gig. I give him props for being good to young comics.
2 Dre013 2014-09-11
Sometimes things are just the way they are supposed to be...Bob's a shitty comedian and therefore gets booked into firehouses and 3rd rate venues. His lack of success accurately reflects his talent level.
1 Berserker717 2014-09-11
He Is playing a hotel near me soon....but then again so is Florentine
0 AiCPearlJam 2014-09-11
Rochester? The Joke Factory is a fine establishment. Saw Levy there with his own opener. His opener BOMBED but Levy did pretty well. I thought he was funny. Not a holy shit almost pissed myself there Bob Kelly type funny but a he's definitely been doing this a while and made me laugh type funny. His crowd work was great, his jokes alright and he spent the time to talk to anyone who wanted to chat after.
1 Berserker717 2014-09-11

Bob Kelly type funny? Define that please!
1 AiCPearlJam 2014-09-11
Lets just say I was laughing so much at his jokes I literally pissed my pants a little and had to get up and run to bathroom. a combination of booze and his killer act did me in
1 johnajapanda 2014-09-11
To be honest, I only enjoy Bawby when he is getting relentlessly bashed. I don't find his tough-guy act, puking, or being overtly gay very funny.
It's only funny when he is being tweaked. I haven't pissed my pants laughing, but definitely choked to death when he broke his leg; and his call from aruba.
1 AiCPearlJam 2014-09-11
See him on stage. His mix of crowd work and really funny bits is perfect. Vos is alright live, pretty much told the same jokes from the album he was selling afterwards. Vos' strong point is how he handles the crowd. His set usually ends up in 45 minutes of picking on the crowd and he's damned good at it. Bobby has a mix of killer crowd work and hilarious concepts.
1 fyisah 2014-09-11
There is only a few that annoy me in the O&A universe but his neediness make angry.
1 [deleted] 2014-09-11
I know Joe isn't exactly a fighter (a former governor, a Navy Seal), but is he really gonna back down that hard from Bob Levy? The guy is like 65 and in horrendous shape. Just once I wish Joe would be like "Yeah, come get some, pussy." Bob would throw one punch and have a heart attack. "Nigga Im TOO fat; I fuck around and have a asthma attack."
1 Leeham721 2014-09-11
I thought his calls to that weird dude 'Lady Di' were hilarious and made every terrible moment worth listening just to understand why he did it.
1 Sks44 2014-09-11
Bob is awful but he made a good point. DeRosa defended Sirius because he’s a fucking slut/hack and figures its better for his poo career to win points with them. Anthony can’t do anything for him anymore in his mind so under the bus Anthony went.
3 pabben1 2014-09-11
Come on, did you even listen to what he said? He doesnt defend Sirius cause its better for his career, get over yourself
1 CreepyChillyGuy 2014-09-11
Exactly, he defends Sirius because it's better for his black friend(s).

Remember Opie's "bit" where he would take Levy's calls and then be out of breath laughing at his brilliance?
1 breadmoccasin 2014-09-11
He's not the worst. Tom Papa is the worst.
1 AntsCamera 2014-09-11
Tom Papa just meshes better with morning zoo, do your act shit radio, than spontanious like we are used to with guys like Patrice, Soder, Burr, Vos, Bawby etc...
I do not think him bad as a comedian, just not a good fit for the show.
1 breadmoccasin 2014-09-11
You're exactly right, but why did he keep getting booked?
1 AntsCamera 2014-09-11
Maybe as a favor to Jim?
I dunno honestly. I do not dislike Tom. He just does not mesh well with this show, and not everyone would, no insult intended towards Mr. Papa. His podcast is actually pretty funny.
0 breadmoccasin 2014-09-11
You know who else was a really bad fit? Jason Ellis.
0 AntsCamera 2014-09-11
That was Opies idea, he even copped out to it and regretted it, I remember Opie saying Ant and Jim did not feel him, and Jim Jefferies called him a cunt.
I love to beat on Opie, but credit to him for admitting the Ellis fuckup.
1 AiCPearlJam 2014-09-11
Because he's been in NYC doing comedy for 20+ years. I don't see why he gets so much shit. Just because he's not brutal and tries to join studio conversation doesn't make him annoying at all. I think people just hear him and think Ohhh emmm GEEE he's not insulting Vos about his lisp. LI3K wut a hack...
Tom Papa has huge respect amongst NYC comedians.
1 breadmoccasin 2014-09-11
That's great. I'm not a comedian. I get to pick what I like. The first thing I saw Tom Papa in was the goddamn Rob Zombie cartoon and it was so bad. I guess he's left a sour taste in my mouth since that, since he doesn't "bring the funny" on the radio show and it seems like a mismatch. I won't seek him out to see him in other stuff, but if he made me laugh in something I saw, I'd definitely give the guy credit.
I know he's respected and Clint Eastwood likes him. Good for him. Now stop speaking for me in the Twitter voice you bumbling cunt. Jump off a bridge. Stop breathing. All that good stuff.
2 AiCPearlJam 2014-09-11
Typical O and A fan comeback. You're so original!
1 breadmoccasin 2014-09-11
It wasn't a comeback, I addressed what you said and gave helpful feedback. You're welcome darling.
2 AiCPearlJam 2014-09-11
Awww using Jimmy's on air voice as your own. Your's always darling
0 breadmoccasin 2014-09-11
I was voted most likely to use things that people understand contextually in high school. Seriously, don't speak to me.
2 AiCPearlJam 2014-09-11
Your bit is brilliant! Take it in stage!
1 breadmoccasin 2014-09-11
But it's not a bit, I was just speaking my opinions, on an opinion board, about what I like, I, me, like, and don't like, and some twat falls down the stairs to tell me how respected someone is. Lou Reed, may he rest in peace, was a respected musician, but he was out of place as hell when he did the album with Metallica, and a lot of Metallica's fans hated that album. See what I'm getting at? Now seriously, please, go and have a lovely day.
1 AiCPearlJam 2014-09-11
I think we both misinterpreted our intentions from the beginning. I wasn't applying the "twitter voice" to you but what I assumed a lot of mouth breathing fans hate on Papa for. I don't understand the hate for the guy besides the fact that he's not a vicious cunt that circlejerks on whoever is getting shit on at the moment. Being completely serious, have a good day sir and sorry for the misunderstanding!
1 breadmoccasin 2014-09-11
Sir, I am a confrontational douche but I don't like making enemies.
-1 alexreleases 2014-09-11
Tom Papa absolutely is the worst, thank you for saying that. I always kinda liked Bob Levy as a character, then again I've seen very little of him, so maybe he's just good in small doses.
1 boring_oneliner 2014-09-11
Artie blasts Bob Levy
1 NoremacMartin 2014-09-11
Levy doesn't write jokes. He is one.
1 cabaretcabaret 2014-09-11
I like him because he is so unashamed. It's funny how bad he is.
1 snoopkhat 2014-09-11
yes
1 Zenaesthetic 2014-09-11
I'll admit Levy never brings much to the show and he tends to ramble and call in too much but I don't hate the guy.. Besides, he did give me one laugh when they had that one Duke pornstar girl on and he called in and said something like "have you ever been choked and then thrown through a window?". Just the sheer inappropriateness of it was hilarious.
1 Crigger540 2014-09-11
DeRosa and Levy are both needy fucks that were never hugged as children
1 Eternalforms 2014-09-11
Bob levy is a very funny dude. So what if he's not that well known or hugely successful...tons of great comedians aren't. Though His ass kissing is completely predictable and opportunistic.
1 Moxson4 2014-09-11
Bob Levy annoyed the fuck out of me when he would call in and yell at Lady Di, calling her Sir. It was funny the first 27 times, and then it just seemed like they were driving the bit into the ground.
I could be wrong. I admit I don't know if this is true, but wasn't Bob Levy one of Howard's guys?, then his humor ran its course, Howard dumped him, so he latched onto the O&A tit through Jimmy? That's just what I heard.
0 regis69 2014-09-11
Bob Levy has been restricted to phoners. If he was allowed in studio he's funnier than Derosa. He was basically the Rich Vos of the Howard Stern show. They mostly made fun of how dumb he is and how much he mispronounces words, but occasionally he would throw in a great joke at someone else's expense. He can't really get that done on the show over the phone and they don't really know him enough to bash him under these circumstances.
0 AntsCamera 2014-09-11
I never heard much of Levy, people seem to hate him alot.
I kinda thought he was funny calling lady Di a dude, until the callers started doing it. I just don't know much about him to form an opinion.
I am welcome to being turned from my neutrality, Opie hating is almost too easy at this point, and attacking Joey Jamtits is like raping a retard.
