Jim Florentine Can Eat A Cock Meat Sandwich
26 2014-09-08 by BeerCanThick
I'm sick of Opie having him in 3 times a month to be an arbiter of cool. He's a fuckin' dork. Plus, he knows basically nothing about heavy metal and loves and promotes bullshit like Buckcherry.
Worst Regular Guest. I'd rather hear Henley, Papa or DeRosa, no lie.

Florentine is fine, he just has to give his opinion so much because Opie keeps tossing things to him and going "What do you think about that Jim? ahahaha".
It's funny now and then but just hang out and have a normal conversation with the guy. It's not Florentine that brings up fantasy football and ketchup every fucking time he's in studio.
12 dukefett 2014-09-08
Yeah, Opie just needs him to shit on stuff, I love Florentine, but that's not all he's about. He's a funny guy who can do his own thing, he doesn't have to be spoon fed topics by Opie.
5 [deleted] 2014-09-08
Florentine has a podcast to which he complains, bitches, and gives his opinion on a new topic every week. He can take plenty of blame.

What cracks me up about Florentine/Norton and Opie discussing what is "cool" and "not cool" is that these guys stopped keeping up to date with music and ANYTHING pop culture related that came out after they graduated middle school. "Its cool to like Judas Priest at any age." is something I might have said when I was 13....and then reconsidered when I was 28.
12 hovanova 2014-09-08
Jimmy apparently hasn't watched T.V. since like 1985. I don't get that at all.
11 cdub61208 2014-09-08
Watch TV? What is he seven?
3 RJPennyweather 2014-09-08
Ya know, I don't need to be sitting around watching Judge Judy talking about her cases and shit. I'm not 5. I'm a man.
3 Motorboat_Jones 2014-09-08
Have you seen network TV lately? I can't really blame him.
6 WNEW 2014-09-08
Yeah, there's been a resurgence of great shows since 2008, 2009 (2000 if you had HBO, Showtime etc.), but you're 100% on the money.
1 Epithemus 2014-09-08
Jimmy seems to be the only one who follows HBO/Showtime shows. Hes the only one who can ask a question related to the show when someone is on like Vincent Piazza from Boardwalk Empire.
3 AngeloMacon 2014-09-08
To be fair to Opie, he's never been into anything cool or not cool even in middle school. The man has never had an interest or hobby.

2 BeerCanThick 2014-09-08
I'd say it is correct to enjoy Judas Priest if you like heavy metal, but it certainly isn't "cool" in 2014 to like New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands.
Maybe Iron Maiden briefly a few years ago and even that was at least half ironic and a good deal of the other half was nostalgia.
1 deliriumtriggered 2014-09-08
It's like when Rolling Stone Magazine writes an article, "Best Conserts to attend in 201X" and the top three answers are like Madonna, Prince, and The Who. No, they were the artists to see 20-40 fucking years ago. How about throwing a bone to some newer artists?
0 hookahreed 2014-09-08

24 GleepGlorpFloopdedoo 2014-09-08
Poor DeRosa.
6 delbertgrady92 2014-09-08
whatever happened to him? Is he still alive even?
11 GleepGlorpFloopdedoo 2014-09-08
Yes, but by the sound of him, they should be taking away all of his belts.
8 [deleted] 2014-09-08
He's grinding it out on the LA circuit, I see him every couple of weeks. (I do open mic's and shit) Joe's a super nice guy, not um...not the greatest stand up. I do love that he trashes LA on stage and doesn't give a fuck. He does it almost every set, and if I say hi to him he'll be like "Do you think they hated me, did I piss them off too bad?" Ha ha.
14 hovanova 2014-09-08
I am sure he is a nice guy in person, but I can't fucking stand him. Never understood how he could be a guest on O&A.
13 [deleted] 2014-09-08
He's not for everyone, so it's understandable. "Nice guy? I don't give a shit. Good father? FUCK YOU, go home and play with your kids."
5 Motorboat_Jones 2014-09-08
Money's out there. You pick it up, it's yours. You don't, I got no sympathy for you.
5 [deleted] 2014-09-08
It takes BRASS BALLS to do stand up.

This is one of my favorite appearances of him. (given you do have Bobo and Patrice on the show and DeRosa kinda just sits and takes it for the most part). But I remember last year with the Montreal shows they were constantly making fun of him and he took it with stride. He seems like an okay guy
2 LobotomistCircu 2014-09-08
His interactions with Burr back on Uninformed were pretty great. He doesn't make me lose my shit laughing often but I at least find him compelling to listen to
13 dukefett 2014-09-08
I seriously feel like I'm the only Derosa fan out there, I think he's hilarious. I've seen him 3 times in a club in NJ, one of them when he recorded his album. I even bought the "Dangerous Joe" shirt they sold for the You Know What Dude podcast back in the day.
8 mancubuss 2014-09-08
I'm with you. I LOVE derosa. I love him more on the radio. There, I said it.
8 JMueller2012 2014-09-08
Joe is a great standup! I think he's way better than Jimmy. I see how he's taken after a lot of the New York comics. He has Burr's anger, He has insight similar to Louie's, and his crowd work reminds me of Vos.
7 delbertgrady92 2014-09-08
Me too he seems like a very friendly guy.
6 Epithemus 2014-09-08
Nope I'm a fan. Hes a good stand up and I love his podcast.
5 LarkSquire 2014-09-08
I always thought he was good on the show.
4 hovanova 2014-09-08
You are the only DeRosa fan.
3 ImaBottom 2014-09-08
I LOVE Derosa,I don't get the hate either.I think he's very funny, throws good references and does a great job articulating his points .Also a lot of people bring up that he's a loser for taking a lot of beating but I never felt like he seems weak when it happens. As apposed to Bob kelly and Vos's beatings when I can feel their insecurities getting to them.
1 [deleted] 2014-09-08
I do love him on the show, and I like him in general. He sounds exactly like most of my friends I grew up with, we're superfans of all the same random movies & shit. His stand up is alright, his podcast is awful. (In my opinion) I saw him do a set by myself one night, and the very next day ran into him on the WB lot outside the Pete Holmes stage. I was like "I swear to god, I'm not stalking you." Imgur
3 dukefett 2014-09-08
I felt super weird one time I saw him at a club, I had my 'Dangerous Joe' shirt on, said hi to him on the way in b/c he was walking around, then I saw him in the bathroom and it was just the two of us while the other comic was on. Slightly awkward wearing another man's face on your chest in a bathroom.
1 [deleted] 2014-09-08
Ha ha, that's awesome. I love when shit like that happens. I wear my WTF shirt every time I see Maron. Which is often. Imgur
3 JMueller2012 2014-09-08

0 [deleted] 2014-09-08
Oh, gosh! (Blushes)
1 GleepGlorpFloopdedoo 2014-09-08
He was best when he had others on the show to antagonize him, e.g., Burr, Patrice, Troy, etc.
The show isn't about that anymore, I guess. It's too bad. That era has.... well, passed us by.
1 [deleted] 2014-09-08
They ENTIIICED him...and ri-RIDICuled him. Throughout his LIFETIME.
1 ig0tworms 2014-09-08
Are his shoulders as terrible as they look on youtube?
-1 [deleted] 2014-09-08
Not really. His shoulders look normal in real life, ha ha. Maybe those dudes have seen him with his shirt off. I do notice he looks like he has this rotten look on his face, like he just smelled dog shit or something. I can't describe it.
1 ig0tworms 2014-09-08
Maybe he's trying to be Seinfeld? Ah what the hell, God bless and good riddance to Joey Roses.

where do you see him out?
0 [deleted] 2014-09-08
All over. Sometimes he's on shows Im already going to see, couple times went just to see him. A few weeks ago he & Bill did a show together, the Goddamn Comedy Jam. He did a weekend at Flappers in Burbank a while back, ran into him back by the open mic. He did one of those Comedy Living Room shows, where these dudes do a show inside their house. It's awesome. Lot of cool shit out here, as a comedy nerd, Im pretty spoiled.
1 [deleted] 2014-09-08
Yeah, I need to get out more. I am such a lazy asshole I can find something wrong with every comedy venue in LA. Too far, too crowded, no parking, too expensive - I have an excuse for everything.
1 [deleted] 2014-09-08
Follow Comedy Living Room on Twitter, that's where they announce shows. It's really cool, it's like a big house party with comics doing sets. Always a lot of hot chicks in there too, they have like a mini bar in the kitchen. It's over by Melrose and Highland, in one of those neighborhoods.
0 hovanova 2014-09-08
Fuck that i'll buy him a pallet of belts.
1 Epithemus 2014-09-08
He has a podcast called Down With Joe DeRosa in which he discusses 1 topic for an hour. Sometimes there are guest, sometimes solo. It's very good if you like ranty humor. Burr esque.
22 schmoegreene 2014-09-08
Whyyy would I eat a cock meat sandwich. I don't like sandwiches sir, I'm a grown man. You know who likes sandwiches? My 4-year old son, that's who likes sandwiches OK?
7 [deleted] 2014-09-08
"NO reason fer daaat."
12 fart_yourself_awake 2014-09-08
"Deep down were all trying to be cool in front of Florentine"
10 dankfranklin 2014-09-08
Love it when Opie says "we" instead of "I" to take the heat off himself. "Look, being honest here, we're all just looking for a viral video. We're all just looking for some recognition."
11 JCP_1975 2014-09-08
His shtick was somewhat funny when he was doing it on his own podcast, but sadly, Opie has beaten the small amount of funny out of it.
9 IBison 2014-09-08
Florentine needs to stop doing the show, its making me hate him.
9 stinkyJig 2014-09-08
Florentine is fine, but Opie's constant imitation of his opinions and his inflection is fucking insufferable.
8 WhiskeynPeanutbutter 2014-09-08
Just another crutch for the Opster to lean on, Bonnie & Rich hold up the other side while Norton looks on waiting for October.
7 brettsd 2014-09-08
Florentine is hilarious but I can see how it can be too much. I hate how he always says the word "nerds" like he's the jock in some stupid 80s high school movie.
8 AfflictionTshirt 2014-09-08
He's basically a gimmick. OK, you're a curmudgeon who hates everything, we get it. He hates stuff that's not real because he's such an adult, doesn't he hate movies?
7 Icculus1833 2014-09-08
there's a reason Florentine and Vos are the only two guys still desperately plugging shitty club gigs. their humor caters only to dumb Jersey meatheads.
they're the only two guys that don't make Jimmy feel like a complete failure, so we(you, I don't listen when they come in) have to put up with one of them once a week.
tell us again how cool Mulder was to work with.
4 KnickedUp 2014-09-08
This is so true and comes through on the radio. Jimmy is never more confident than when Vos/Bawby/Florentine are in. He knows those guys will always be 4th tier comedians while he rests comfortably at the top of tier 3. Yimmy's insecurities shine through when up and comers are on the show like Soder. He knows its only a matter of time before Soder is making more and doing bigger gigs and that kills him.
6 Thelonius16 2014-09-08
There were some nice cringe-worthy gaps between Opie comments and Florentine responses today.
6 BillBittinger 2014-09-08
DeRosa would be wasted on Opie.
Anyone else listen to Joe's podcast? It's pretty good stuff.
2 hovanova 2014-09-08
You couldn't pay me to listen to it.
1 JMueller2012 2014-09-08
I like it when he has other people on.
-4 [deleted] 2014-09-08
I could just listen to NPR. I hate his podcast.
3 BillBittinger 2014-09-08
Well Opie should keep you entertained with Ketchup and other exciting bits!
6 JohnQNo1 2014-09-08
Florentine is the very manchild he purports to hate. the guy's so lame it's unlistenable sometimes. i dont know how anyone could like the guy...unless you're just as lame as he is.
5 Slippery_Slope_Guy 2014-09-08
I like Florentine.
5 decmcg 2014-09-08
Florentine has the charisma of a corpse.
5 KnickedUp 2014-09-08

5 PanzerSmanzer 2014-09-08
He'll eat it, but it better not have any ketchup on it.
4 [deleted] 2014-09-08
DeRosa is alright. Florentine is good but he's been on too much recently.
8 Lasagna_Hat 2014-09-08
I like him when they are actually doing a show. When Florentine came in for Joe Piscopo bashing or telling old road stories with Norton, he fucking rules.
It's not his fault Opie just asks him, "Is this cool....do you like this food...?"
Opie is misusing Florentine and driving the "Jim hates things" bit into the ground
It's not that he's been on too much, it's like they are ramming the same bit down our throats. (ex: Studio bitching, Anthony's political/gun/race discussions, Apology Clock)
Opie needs to stop using Jim as his compass for what is "cool" and broadcast listenable radio
-4 kevin_k 2014-09-08
DeRosa stinks.
1 [deleted] 2014-09-08
He doesn't have a strong personality but he's a solid stand-up.
-1 kevin_k 2014-09-08
Not from what I've seen. Very manufactured-angsty, too much confidence in audience agreement/sympathy with whatever he's railing about.

3 [deleted] 2014-09-08
Florentine on the radio means I'm turning it off. I understand that people find him funny, but I find him to be humorless and bitter. That and his voice is akin to white noise, which makes me sleepy.
3 jimmybrite 2014-09-08
I just plain don't like the guy.
2 erockarmy1 2014-09-08
He is Opie's man crush.
2 opieanthonyjim 2014-09-08
He's funny when he randomly doesn't like something or he tells stories. He's not funny when Opie constantly pushes him to say he doesn't like things, seriously, Opie plays that bit out so badly that it's not even close to being funny anymore, which is a shame because it actually is funny when Florentine randomly doesn't like some banal thing. The difference is, he used to not say it about everything, but now that Opie pushes it with literally everything that comes up, he's killed the bit.
2 no_more_fatties 2014-09-08
I'd rather NOT have DeRosa and it has nothing to do with him. When Joe comes in, Opir puts on his "big boy alpha male" pants and his douchebaggery increases exponentially.
