Opie is Like An Annoying Boss

I work in engineering, and I've noticed there's two types of bosses:

The bad bosses are the ones who used to be good at engineering, but that was twenty years ago. They've coasted for the last twenty years, and they're not as technically strong as the young guys are. The worst thing about these guys is that they won't allow anyone to disagree with them. For instance, if I know how to do something better, I'll keep my mouth shut, because bad bosses HATE IT when you make them look bad. So basically you have someone that's collecting a pay check, and not only are they NOT doing their job, they're actually PREVENTING work from getting done, all to preserve their ego.

The good bosses are easy to spot, because the good bosses are the one's who aren't afraid to let other people shine. A good boss knows that he's not an expert on EVERYTHING, and he's willing to let someone else take the limelight once in a while. The reason that a good boss is humble is because he knows that he IS an expert at some things. For instance, I once had a good boss that knew databases better than I did, and when we were on that topic, I would defer to him.

And that's the evolution of Opie. He's gone from a GOOD boss, someone who recognizes and nurtures talent, to a BAD boss who's unwilling to be criticized EVER and simply surrounds himself with ball-washers.

Good analogy; Opie's not just a zero, he's a minus. He's not just unfunny; he's anti-funny, ready to stamp out a Chippah appearance or derail an interesting conversation.

And, like most bad bosses, he's got a Renfield/Smithers bootlicker to help prop him up.

Exactly. The bad bosses have the potential to be GOOD bosses, if they had more self esteem. The problem is that they have fragile egos, and they feel like they have to compete with the experts.

Imagine if a general on the battlefield felt compelled to be on the front lines. He'd get killed in a matter of days. The only way to be a successful general is to manage your resources and let the infantry do the dirty work.

He has the vibe where nobody can tell him to shut up and everybody has to not notice how he interrupts them to give stupid stories and jokes out. Nobody can ever say he's lying, either. Every fake story has to be sold like the truth.

Everybody chuckles at his bombs because he's the boss. He gets 30 boss-chuckles a show.

I haven't been listening unless somebody points out a clip in particular that seems especially shitty or of there is a good show. I think at this point people are just listening because of how bad they expect the show to be so they have something to trash. Kinda like being a Red Sox fan but watching Yankees games just to root against them.

It's the most enjoyment I get out of the show.

Opies douche-chilling lines/pauses/fake stories/etc. and Jimmy's uncomfortable pauses.

Every now and there is a good show and I'll tune in
