Without Opies "eye for talent" the show NEVER EXISTS

Discovered Ant, saw something in Jimmy. Also when his destroyer gimmick comes out, it makes for great radio. I know he's got his flaws. I admit he tends to trample. But cmon, what I just mentioned above has gotta count for something I don't get why you guys are killing and piling up on the guy like this

(So did Dice and Colin Quinn) about 14 years ago
Hasn't been seen for years. Even then, he did it once or twice a month?
Basically what your saying is "Opie did three things right in 25 years, let's give him a pass for being a lying, unfunny, conversational terrorist"
No

If someone doesn't sign up with the user name "Conversational Terrorist" by the end of today, I'm gonna be very disappointed.

I also did notice that a few episodes of their last week before break he actually acknowledged it, and it even seems like he held back a little more then usual. I truly think he's gonna get better

Noone hated him THIS MUCH when Ant was around. O&J lost a comedic genius. They lost their co host (the guy with as much pull and power as Ope) his character flaws are shining more and it's unfortunate and certainly not something he wanted to happen. I guess I just don;t get bothered by it to the degree that some of you do.

Anthony and Jimmy's humor outweighed his douchy persona, and he knew to shut up when Ant & Jim were on a roll. Without Anthony, Jimmy has no one to riff with and he isn't very funny anymore
So yeah, I guess you don't get bothered as much as everyone else. I don't know how you don't, if you compare the show from a year ago to the one right now.
The show has turned into phone calls, music requests, Jimmy being the "serious guy", and Opie's never interesting/funny stories and anecdotes. If there isn't a comedian or guest on, the show sounds like a lot of the Jocktober shows they shit on.

of course the show isn't nearly as good without Ant. It's a tragedy. But I personally still enjoy it, theyve done a great job bringing in funny comics and it's still better than anything else out there

Your lucky man, I wish I could still enjoy it. The only segments I can tolerate are when there are talented comics in studio. But even then I hold my breath in hopes Opie doesn't make the room uncomfortable.
When Opie and Jim are alone, there are at least a half-dozen podcasts that are funnier and more entertaining. I can't ignore the hypocrisy of the show.
Opie has bragged and ranted for years about how he knows good radio/done it since he was 18/all other shows are hack/Howard is an out of touch millionaire/etc etc. I get uncomfortable and sad when I listen now

cause he fucking sucks.

Opie can be funny, but it's not the kind of funny where he's got hilarious lines or jokes. He's not inherently funny, but he "knows" funny. He would be a perfect program director for an edgy talk radio station/network/channel/whatever. Not a host.

I'll give you that. Opie is a funny person, just not a comic. He definitely knows funny, and can throw some alley oops, and set guys up in good spots. I wouldn't take the mic from him though. He's still solid enough on the radio. Cmon guys, we've listened to Opie (some of us for 20 years). The problem is O&A was the ultimate duo and we lost the comedic genius half of that. We need the show back. I enjoyed the few TACS episodes I've seen, and Ant is definitely not as annoying as Ope can be, but face it, that show isn't even close to as good as O&A either. We need the boys to come back, bottom line
and on a side note, any gentleman that can hook me up with todays Anthony show with Jim. Unless Ants show is on itunes or has a clear, stream that will not cut out on my 3g/4g phone in strictly audio form. The sub just isnt worth it for me. The only times I listen is when I'm driving or exercising

Only if someone knocks his teeth out. Otherwise it is an admission he has no talent and can't be funny. It is the equivalent of a kid in school eating glue for a cheap shock laugh.

we had a kid who used to eat soda cans. Kid was a weirdo with not a single funny bone in his body. But shit when he ate that can, I would mark out and chuckle every single time. This is like saying Jackass isnt funny (not that Opie is jackass funny, but you get my drift)

Two good hiring decisions and glide on those fucking laurels for twenty years. Swish!

You forgot his ability to captain the ship. There, now that's 3 positive things about Opie.
The problem is, there's also hundreds of reasons to dislike him. To say the bad outweighs the good is an immense understatement.
Edit: I was trying to be sarcastic about captaining the ship, A-buuuuuuuuu.

I dunno, while I see his flaws, they just don't bug me as much as most of you. And seriously, this entire show that we all clrealy love was 100% his brain child. That plus alone has gotta outweigh every single negative

Nah.
2 TheRadicalMan 2014-09-02
He's the guest Live now on Rich and Bonnie's show.

Yeah one time Opie did some cool stuff. What has he done for us lately? Bitched about his twitter haters? Waaaahhhh! Made some rad-ass viral videos? Oh yeah, loving that shit. The guy's career is over.

Ant's impression of Dice is what eventually lead to Jimmy being part of the show.
Edit: And Ant was sending his tapes out to multiple shows if i remember the story correctly. Opie was just the first random local dj to put him on. Dumb luck is all I'll give credit to Opie for.
-2 maynardsabeast 2014-09-02
Well the fact that he sent out tapes to several shows and Opie was the one that picked him actually further proves his eye for talent if you ask me

Let him see something in an elevator shaft and discover the bottom of it.
