The trifecta of the Opie & Anthony & Jim show was the holy trinity of comedy/Talk radio. there was Anthony: the extreme thinker, hilarious, intellectual, and a comedic leader on the show. jim: a professional comedian who would add humor to anthony's intellectual points. and a person for anthony to rally funny thoughts back and forth with. Opie: the laymen. the average thinker. the guy who thinks he's funnier than he is, and wishes he could be as funny as the other funny people in the room. a great radio captain though. a professional broadcaster who's role was important in the trinity, as the steerer of the ship.
In the midst of OAJ, O's laymen characteristics were tollerable, and even important. Because he represents the average guy. He'd ask shitty questions, make shitty jokes. and we'd all kind of roll our eyes listening to him, but we also kind of laugh on the inside, and even feel empathy, because he represents the average (us).
However, now that A is out of the picture, we are left with just O&J. Which means we are now faced with the laymen A LOT more, which makes the show almost intollerable. No one wants to hear someone with average intellect, and below average comedic ability on a comedy radio show. This is why the show will fail, unless they find someone to replace Anthony permanently. There is too much weight, and O&J are not strong enough to hold it up. We need higher quality conversation, and higher quality comedy. The hate for Opie is a reflection of the hate we have for our own mediocre abilities. Thoughts?

Absolutely not. He has an (on-air) personality that is douchey. He certainly does not represent me, or anybody I would willingly spend my free time with.

I think we can at least give Opie the ability to look for unparalleled talent with the intent of hiding his own lack of talent. Since he's starting to lack in that regard as well if it weren't for the stable of comedians that come to the show, I feel it's time for Opie to do this.

I dunno if I would call Opie "average intellect." He is, however, certainly (and apparently actively) uninformed. He doesn't know what is going on in the world which makes it difficult to listen to him when he tries to talk about news stories. A little bit of preparation would at least make him tolerable. If I had a microphone and an audience I would read up on some shit before I talk about it. He never has the information or even an opinion on anything. He is just turning on his mic and babbling. Anthony was the guy who followed the news and had strong opinions and Jimmy would contribute based off of that by either making jokes or playing the devil's advocate (YEEEAAAHHHH!!!!) to Ant's standpoint. Opie's refusal to brush up on current events makes him useless on the air.

Opie had the ambition, Ant brought the laughs. Op was best when they both wanted to take over the world or burn it down trying.

Opie was, is, and will always be a zero. He's not a "layman"; he's a fuckin' asshole. He's only ever had one note: act like a complete jerkoff for shock value, then congratulate himself for being such a rebel.

Some people just focus on the things they hate, and they desperately need other people to validate their opinion. Normal healthy people don't talk about what they hate all day long.
